Selston High School students were today full of pride as they marked their examination achievements

Students at Selston High School are being recognised today after receiving the results of their hard work throughout their GCSE and Vocational studies. This year, the school has seen an increase in the number of students achieving a grade 5 or above across all subjects, as students prepare to take their next steps in education, training and employment.

David Broomhead, Headteacher, at Selston High School, said:
"Selston students continue to work diligently towards their educational outcomes and personal goals. We are pleased with the improvements the school is making and would like to thank all families and students for their commitment this year. Our students are hardworking, kind and considerate young people, their families should be proud. We wish our Year 11 cohort all the best as they progress to the next chapter."

Students have worked incredibly hard to reach this point, with particular successes including:

• Maddy Smith gained 5 grade 9s in English language, English literature, double science, history and physical education. 3 grade 8s in maths, double science and spanish. Maddy has enrolled into Ashfield Post 16 ahead of the new academic year.
• Eadon Shaw gained a grade 9 in maths, 4 grade 8s in history, English language, chemistry and physics, 2 grade 7s in biology and spanish as well as a grade 5 English literature. Eadon intends to use this grades to attend Ashfield Post 16.
• Harry Martin gained 2 grade 9s in chemistry and maths, 5 grade 7s in physics, biology, french, English language and georgraphy as well as a 6 in English literature. Harry is starting a Level 3 Apprenticeship this September.
• Elspeth Bull gained a grade 9 in art, 1 grade 8 in history, 2 grade 7s in maths and double science as well as 4 grade 6s. She is heafing to Kimberlery School sixth form this September.
• Oliver Burton achieved 1 grade 9 in history, 2 grade 8s in maths and spanish, a grade 7 in physics and 4 grade 6s in chemisty, biology, English language and English literature. He has already enrolled to join the Ashfield Post 16 September cohort.
• Matthew Stokes achieved a grade 9 in history, 4 grade 8s in maths, English language, biology and chemistry, 2 grade 7s in English literature and physics as well as a 6 in spanish. Matthew will be attending Ashfield Post 16 from September.

We look forward to celebrating with our Year 11 students their exam successes.

GCSE and Vocational results will be available for collection on Thursday 20th August 2026. Students may collect their results between 8:30am and 12:00pm.

Please note that results will only be issued directly to the student who sat the examinations. If a student is unable to collect their results in person, they may request to receive them via email later in the day or arrange for a nominated individual to collect them on their behalf.
In such cases, the student must send an email from their own account providing the name of the nominated person. The nominated individual must present an appropriate form of identification, such as a driving licence, when collecting the results.

From all the staff here at thank you for your continued support this year. Our students and this community are amazing, we will look forward to working with them and our families again in September.

The Government are modifying the rules on who will qualify for free school meals next year. If you haven't qualified before you are encouraged to apply to Nottinghamshire County Council who manage eligibility for most local schools and will advise further.

Selston High School was delighted to welcome former student and 'Undisputed King of Selston' Danny Scott as our guest at the school's annual 'Achievement Evening' which was again held at Eastwood Hall. Danny now a freelance author and journalist recollected of the time when he felt like the undisputed King of Selston. Then again, there were several years when he was convinced that he could talk to animals and had even mastered the power of flight - sailing nightly over the headstocks, slag heaps and doggedly beautiful countryside of a certain isolated East Midlands mining village. During the event the achievements of students in a wide variety of areas of school were celebrated as they were presented with certificates by Danny and our Chair of Governors Gill Haslam. Thanks were also expressed to parents for their continuing support. The real stars of the evening though were the students who once again have shown Ambition, Teamwork, Honesty and Respect during the past year and thoroughly deserve this well earned praise.
