💜 And we’re back! 🎨

After the school holiday break, it was so lovely to have my Friday painters back in the studio yesterday.

We eased ourselves back in with watercolour flowers — exploring those beautiful purples and greens, building up layers of transparent colour and looking at how just a few darker tones can give petals shape and depth.

Watercolour has that slightly nerve-wracking quality of making you relinquish a bit of control and let the paint do its thing… but just look at these! 💜

Such a gorgeous collection to start our new block of Friday classes.

And, perhaps most importantly, it was lovely to be back around the table, painting, chatting and enjoying a couple of hours of creative time together. 🥰

🐹🎨 Today’s art with the kids… and we had some very cheeky little characters appearing!

We used watercolour pencils combined with vintage book pages to create these gorgeous hamsters, experimenting with drawing, colour and collage along the way.

There was lots of attention paid to tiny paws, whiskers, fluffy tummies and VERY important hamster expressions. 😂

And then some of our artists decided that a flat piece of artwork simply wasn’t enough… their hamsters needed tails poking right out of the back of the paper! 😌😂

Exactly the kind of creative thinking I love.

Absolutely brilliant work from today’s young artists. 🐹✨

If you've ever smiled at Quentin Blake's wonderfully quirky illustrations in books like Matilda, The BFG or The Twits, you'll know just how full of life and character his work is.

This month's online Art Hub Famous Artist Workshop is all about capturing that same expressive style using waterproof pen and watercolour.

I'll be showing you, step by step, how to loosen up your drawing, create lively pen lines and add simple washes of watercolour to bring your illustrations to life. It's a really fun style to explore and perfect if you'd like to become a little more expressive in your artwork.

Thursday 27th August
10am–12pm
As always, if you can't make the class live, don't worry. The recording will be available afterwards, so you can enjoy it whenever it suits you.
Did you know?
Quentin Blake illustrated more than 500 books.
His first illustrations were published when he was just 16 years old.
He was the UK's very first Children's Laureate.
Even in his nineties, he still draws every day.

I can't wait to share this workshop with our Hub members. I think you're going to have lots of fun with this one!

If you're not yet a member of the Create! Art Hub and would like to join us, you'll also have access to our growing library of previous artist workshops and skills classes, all for £19 a month.

Can you believe we're already heading towards September? 🍦🎨
As summer starts to wind down, why not make a little time for yourself this autumn?

If you've been thinking about joining my online Create! Art Hub, this could be the perfect time to give it a try.

One of the things I hear most is, "I don't have time." But that's the beauty of the Hub. You don't have to join the live classes. Every lesson is recorded, so you can paint whenever it suits you, whether that's with a morning coffee, on a quiet Sunday afternoon or one evening after work.

For just £19 a month, you'll enjoy:
🎨 Two new online classes every month
🎨 A growing library of previous workshops
🎨 Friendly, step-by-step tuition
🎨 A wonderful community of fellow art lovers

There are no long-term contracts, so you can stay for as long as you're enjoying it.

One or two hours a month doing something creative could make a real difference to how you feel.

I'd love to welcome you into the Hub.

🖌️ Your Creative Space Should Make You Smile

Your art space doesn't have to look like a professional studio.

It just needs to be a place that makes you think...

"I'd love to spend some time creating today." 💛

Maybe it's:
🌿 A sunny spot by the window
🎨 A desk with your favourite paints ready to use
📚 A shelf filled with sketchbooks and inspiration
☕ A cosy corner where you can enjoy a cup of tea while you draw

When your creative tools are easy to reach, you're much more likely to make time for art… even if it's just for a few minutes.

So why not spend a little time this week creating a space that inspires you?

Because creativity doesn't need a lot of room... it just needs a place to begin.

📸 We'd love to see your creative corner! Share a photo in the comments and inspire our wonderful community.

🚀✨ One small step for our budding artists… one giant leap for their imaginations!

This week our young artists blasted off into space, creating these fantastic astronauts using chalk pens, soft pastel and a touch of metallic sparkle.

One of my favourite parts of the lesson was seeing each child personalise their space suit with their own badges, stars, planets and colourful reflections in the visor. No two astronauts were the same—each one was ready for their own unique mission!

Art is such a wonderful way to encourage creativity and storytelling. I can’t wait to see where their imaginations take us next.

Amazing work, everyone! 🌎🌙⭐

Very proud of my wonderful and talented friend Claire, who has curated this incredible exhibition featuring the jaw-dropping portraits of artist Grace Payne-Kumar Grace Payne-Kumar

Seeing these portraits up close was a real privilege. I was fascinated to learn about Grace’s methodology and the traditional sight-size technique she uses. During the creation of a portrait, she walks an estimated three miles between her sitter, her easel and her palette. Back and forth. A dab here, a brushstroke there. Gradually building the painting with remarkable accuracy and sensitivity until it becomes astonishingly lifelike.

Another fascinating aspect of the exhibition is the opportunity to take part in Claire’s research, exploring how museum and gallery experiences can be enhanced through sensory engagement. It’s a thoughtful and innovative way of encouraging visitors to connect with art on a deeper level.

If you’re in or near London, I’d highly recommend making the trip to the exhibition at the University of Westminster, Harrow Campus Gallery. It’s a rare chance to experience these extraordinary paintings in person….and trust me, photographs simply don’t do them justice. 🎨
