Azan Ahmed (multi-award-winning playwright, actor, poet, and Young Muslim Writers Awards 2025 judge) on reading the shortlisted play scripts:

"I loved reading these shortlisted plays. I laughed, I gasped and I scrolled fast eager to see and read what happened next. There were stories of family, faith and resilience.
There were characters who learned to celebrate and own their differences. But there were also witty murder mysteries, ghostly tennis matches and creepy computer games. Every single one of these shortlisted writers expanded what it means to be a writer, and to be Muslim today."

Last month we came together to celebrate the nominees of the 2025 Young Muslim Writers Awards – a Muslim Hands project presented in association with the Institute of English Studies at the School of Advanced Study, University of London.

Over two hundred guests gathered at the iconic Senate House in London to honour the outstanding achievements of young Muslim writers and to discover this year’s winners.

This Friday, you can be part of the celebration too by tuning in to the awards ceremony, broadcast exclusively by our official media partner, Islam Channel.

Enjoy insightful advice from our guest speakers, be inspired by a special performance from poet Adisa, and hear directly from the winners as they read excerpts from their award-winning entries.
