Wooden birds, tiny eggs, and real-life nature discoveries
On Monday we explored some of the beautiful birds we might spot in the wild; Pigeons, Robins, Blue T**s, Blackbirds, and Sparrows. Each wooden bird sparked conversations about colours, nests, eggs, and where they live in nature.
Using real-life nature connections helps children build curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them. From matching eggs to birds to sharing stories of birds they’ve seen at home or in the woods, every little moment encourages observation, wonder, and care for wildlife.
Hands-on learning through play creates meaningful connections that children remember. Nature really is the best classroom.
These birds and eggs were kindly gifted by and we couldn’t love them any more if we tried!

It’s amazing what you can do with the very popular wooden number trays!
“We used them with conkers and kept it really open, letting everyone explore and create in their own way.
It’s all about providing opportunities for hands-on, meaningful learning — counting, sorting, pattern-making, problem-solving, or simply enjoying the sensory experience. When children are free to lead their own play, the learning unfolds naturally.”🌿 Thank you folk play 🌳
