Huge congratulations go to Grace today. After suffering previous disappointments she managed to control her test nerves and pass with just two faults recorded.

Hugely disappointing to have a student fail her driving test today for a Serious fault on response to signs and signals. Failed for driving at 36mph on this road. Shame on you Ashfield District Council

To add more context to the original post. The 40 speed sign is in clear view to all drivers within a temporary 30mph zone due to building works. The driver responded to the 40mph speed sign and failed for speeding. The examiner didn't see the 40mph sign. Student then slowed to 30mph before they passed the next 30mph sign. Every sign was acted on correctly by the driver. The 40mph sign has since been covered over by the council.

Sadly this problem is Nationwide. We also see this happen on a daily basis in Nottinghamshire.

We recently received correspondence from a registered driving instructor asking for an awareness message to be posted to highlight the difficulties faced by learner drivers and instructors.

Everyone learned to drive at one time and can surely remember how difficult it seemed at the time. However, as we get more and more confident and competent in our driving, it's easy to forget those first few stressful lessons or maybe the worry of your first journey without an instructor sat next to you.

The issues raised by the instructor includes learners being intimidated by other drivers tailgating them when they are driving at the limit, lack of consideration or patience and sometimes even abuse. If this kind of behaviour is captured on dashcam, it can be submitted to the police via Operation Snap and action can be taken against the offending drivers.

Learner drivers don't deliberately make mistakes, or drive slowly to hold up other drivers. They are sometimes nervous or unsure at junctions and may take longer to pull out into a gap in traffic. We were all there at one time and it costs nothing to give them a little space and time.
