Today, on World Homeless Day, we are met with the stark reminder that homelessness services are vital provisions for vulnerable people. (TW: homelessness deaths)
New figures from the Museum of Homelessness reveal that 1,611 people died while homeless in the UK in 2024 - the highest number on record.
Here in Nottingham, the impact has been especially severe. The number of homeless deaths in our city doubled last year to 22. At Emmanuel House, we are heartbroken but not surprised.
These are not just statistics. They are lives lost, people failed by systems meant to protect them. Behind each number is a story of trauma, poverty, isolation, and missed opportunities for intervention.
At Emmanuel House, we see the human cost of homelessness every day. We provide support, shelter, food, and hope to those who are often overlooked. But this crisis demands more than compassion, it demands action.
We stand with those calling for urgent change. We need:
- Safe, secure housing.
- Consistent mental health and addiction support.
- Long-term funding for frontline services.
Thank you to our staff, volunteers, supporters, and partners who make our work possible. Together, we can be part of the solution.
Donate, volunteer, or spread the word. Every action counts.
