In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), scissor skills are a key physical development milestone that builds fine motor control, bilateral coordination, and the foundational hand strength needed for confident writing. Development progresses from simple snipping and cutting straight lines to navigating curves and complex shapes.

The spring weather has finally sprung🌸🌼. We will be having a lot more outside play this term. Outdoor play is crucial for early years development, offering unique opportunities for physical, cognitive, and emotional growth that indoor settings cannot replicate. It improves health (muscular strength, vitamin D), builds resilience through risk-taking, and fosters curiosity. Daily access to outdoor spaces, including in all weathers, supports all seven EYFS learning areas.
