Mrs Adams recently attended the 70th Anniversary celebration of the Duke of Edinburgh Award! She writes about the experience below:

"At the end of May I was privileged to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace as part of a week of events in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

The Fernwood School, along with thousands of other organisations across the country and internationally, has been supporting young people to achieve their Bronze and Silver Awards in school for many years, and it was a pleasure to be representing the school at this event. It was an afternoon of sunshine and music, with guest speakers including Dame Kelly Holmes and David Seaman MBE as well as HRH Prince Edward addressing the guests.

I would strongly encourage our students to work towards their Gold DofE Awards after leaving Fernwood and have the opportunity to celebrate completion in the palace gardens one day in the future."

In light of the recent tragic deaths of several young people in open water incidents across the UK, we are sharing important water safety advice from the RNLI. As the weather gets warmer and more young people spend time outdoors, we encourage families to take a few moments to read this guidance and discuss how to stay safe around open water.
If you’re in trouble in the water, could save your life:
- tilt your head back with ears submerged
- relax and try to control your breathing
- use your hands to help you stay afloat
- it’s ok if your legs sink, we all float differently
Practise floating at a supervised location such as a swimming pool.
Remember it. Practise it. Share it. https://instagr.am/p/DZE4loBojvP/

Some fantastic outcomes from our lovely year 9s doing the Lit project. Demonstrating skills in concrete casting, using jigs, the router, soldering, cutting different metals, working to tolerances from orthographic drawings. And such lovely group of students too! Very proud! https://instagr.am/p/DYnM0V0jT3c/
