Working memory is an area I frequently discuss with parents. Everyone's working memory has a different capacity, and it can impact how well we can hold and manipulate information. This is a good article to read to gain a greater understanding of working memory and how you can support your child at home. If I were brave enough, I would post a photo of my desk, which is currently covered in numerous Post-it notes with all of the reminders I need!!
Working Memory - what is it and how can we support? - Louise Selby Dyslexia Specialist
In this blog, working memory is compared to a bottle neck, which very easily breaks, especially where there are working memory difficulties. These difficulties often occur with dyslexia, developmental coordination disorder (dyspraxia), ADHD, autistic spectrum disorder, developmental language disorde...

This time is year can be very stressful for children, parents and carers. Exams and tests can affect people in so many different ways, and it can be hard for many to express their knowledge of subjects in an exam. Give your big and little ones an extra big hug tonight if they’re facing SATs, GCSEs, A levels or any other exam. Or if getting up and going to school is super hard ❤️❤️

I’ve just received a lovely thank you card from a parent of a child I assessed recently. As the parent of a child (adult now to be fair 😍) with dyslexia myself, I appreciate how nerve racking the process can be for both the child and the parent. This mum was really grateful for the experience, and reported that her son found the assessment session ‘fun’. I break up the assessment session with games (the magnet game is a big winner at the moment), snacks and always a good chat. It really helps me to get the know the child better and is why I love my role so much. I meet so many amazing children (and their fabulous parents) 🤩❤️

Today was an exciting and informative day at a dyslexia conference based at the Royal College of Surgeons in London.
In the past year, a new definition of dyslexia has been released, which APC holders like myself work to. A new report format has also been available to assessors and we have access to a wider range of assessment batteries to help in our assessing and diagnosing of individuals.
Today was a superb networking opportunity but also time to discuss the new report format, definition and test batteries.
I love meeting and assessing young people and these changes will keep my practice current and relevant 👩🏻🏫📚❤️
