Our Nottinghamshire Torch SCITT trainees are settling into their new classrooms, getting to know their pupils, and beginning their teaching journey in Brussels

From Nottinghamshire to Rome 🇮🇹

Our trainees are commuting past the Vatican on their way to teach — a powerful reminder that teacher development thrives on global perspective.

Experiencing education in a different context strengthens reflection, broadens pedagogy, and builds confident, adaptable teachers.

There’s something pretty special about seeing our trainees step off a plane, step into a new city… and step straight into the next stage of their teaching journey 🌍✈️

This week, some of our brilliant Nottinghamshire Torch SCITT trainees have arrived in Prague, Brussels and Rome for their international placements — and what an incredible settings to learn, teach and grow.

From navigating new schools and classrooms to experiencing a different education system and culture, these placements are about so much more than travel. They’re about building confidence, broadening perspectives, and developing the adaptability that great teachers need.

We’re so proud of the courage, professionalism and enthusiasm they’re already showing (and yes, we’re slightly jealous of the views too 🇨🇿✨).

Wishing them an amazing start — we can’t wait to see all they learn and achieve over the coming weeks.

This week has been all about sharpening that teacher toolkit — breaking skills down clearly, demonstrating with purpose, and helping pupils see exactly what success looks like in PE. From precision in technique to confident explanations, the progress has been brilliant to see.

A lovely visit to Torch SCITT from Geoff Holt and Siddiqui (and googlebox ⭐ ).
Brilliant to see their programme in action as they observed Sarah Koninckx on the straight to teaching program and lead mentor Sarah Lynas — a real reminder of how powerful our wider partnerships are when they come together around great practice.
So energising to see collaboration, mentoring. We had a great chat about international partnerships appropriately on the SCITT sofas 😊

On Placement 1, our trainees went beyond the classroom by setting up their own enrichment clubs. These clubs weren’t just about activities—they were about building meaningful relationships with pupils, fostering trust, and supporting their growth in a fun, engaging way.

It’s inspiring to see our trainees connect, mentor, and make a real difference every day!

🌍✨ ’s trip to Finland was a truly brilliant experience for our trainees.
They demonstrated real resilience, pushed beyond their comfort zones, and gained invaluable experience that will shape their journeys ahead.
