It is with great sadness we’ve said goodbye to Mrs McNeil, Mr McDaid, Mrs Hurd and Mr Preedy this week. We thank them for all their hard work, time and dedication to our school and the children they’ve taught. We’ll miss you but wish you every success in your next adventures.

Today, we held our last Mass of the academic year and also wished our Year 6 leavers well as they move onto secondary. Thank you to those who attended and joined us in the celebration and a time of reflection for all of the accomplishments our children have achieved over the last academic year.

Eco club are incredibly proud of our of school grounds and all the rich habitats we nurture and see wildlife thriving amongst it everyday.

As we are in our third heatwave of the year our grasslands and woodland areas are ever more valuable to protecting our planet and our climate. The children thoroughly enjoy exploring the tall grasses and wooded areas too throughout the seasons.

One often overlooked solution to climate change are wildflower meadows!

Wildflower meadows are national treasures. They store carbon, reduce ground-level temperature for insects and can even cool urban areas.

But they are at risk of disappearing.

We need to safeguard these meadows. You can help protect these national treasures.

Flower-rich Grasslands and Meadows Can Store 500% More Carbon Than Fields of pure grass.

Alongside peat bogs and woodlands, meadows are vital carbon sinks because of their varied soil structure and greater biomass in and above the soil.

Meadows Help Save Wildlife

Research shows that longer meadow vegetation can reduce ground-level temperatures by around 5–10°C during hot summer weather compared with closely mown grass, helping create cooler refuges for plants and wildlife.

Meadows Can Help Cool Cities

While it’s rare to find a whole meadow within a city, every patch of species-rich grassland can help cool cities and surrounding areas. Whether on a road verge or in a park, a mixture of species and grass lengths helps fight the climate crisis.

Wildflower meadows are truly remarkable.
