Life long learning for people from all over the world.

Our adventure with uNick Academy began exactly 10 years ago. Until then, it was just Nick running “English with an Englishman.” His lessons were so popular that I seriously considered cloning him 😉

At that time, I was working in a big corporation, but fate had other plans – the company let me go, which in hindsight turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me. And instead of cloning Nick, I joined the team. In the beginning, we split – he taught adults, and I taught kids.

I noticed one difference – when Nick was teaching, children spoke much more eagerly in English than when they were with me. Why? The answer is simple – because with me it was artificially forced. That’s just how our brains work – they go for the path of least resistance. If this lady speaks Polish, she’ll understand what I say in Polish. That’s when I realised why lessons with a foreigner are so much more effective. The brain sees the need to communicate in another language.

And so it began – since Nick couldn’t be cloned, and with me lessons weren’t as effective (even though both the kids and I had a blast 🤪), we decided our school would be different. You could even say unique… or should I say uNick-que 😉

The first to join us was Gui from Portugal, then Camilla from Canada – they were wonderful, and students adored them (let us know who remembers their lessons!). Later came equally amazing Kim from Ecuador, Mona and Hussain from Saudi Arabia, and many, many other fantastic people from every corner of the world.

Over these 10 years, we’ve received countless messages from students and their parents telling us how, directly or indirectly, we’ve influenced their lives. Not only by breaking the language barrier but also by opening their minds to the world. And I have to say, I’m incredibly proud of that 🥹

Taking advantage of this big anniversary, we’d like to invite all our former, current, and future students and teachers to celebrate with us on October 10th. More details soon, but for now – please save the date 📆

And last but not least – to make this totally sentimental – a BIG THANK YOU to all the teachers who’ve worked with us over the past 10 years, and huge thanks to all our students for your trust, for being with us, and for recommending us to others 🙏

Big hugs,
Milena

The word 'disability' doesn't sit well with me. It implies a lack of ability. But is that the whole truth? Or is it simply a different way of approaching tasks, not conforming to the majority? How about we call it 'differentability' – a term that feels more accurate.

Let me share a story of a young boy born without a hand. Yet, from an early age, he defied any limitations. He reveled in playground adventures, chose tennis among all sports, and found his heart in music. An electric guitar which he inherited from his uncle became his partner, defying the norm. How, you ask? Differently. He forged his path and excelled. I might be biased, for he's my son, but you can judge his prowess in this video for yourself.

Many of our so-called limitations are self-imposed. It's the easier route. Society's expectations lower, and sadly, so do our own. 'I wish I could play an instrument, but I lack a hand...' 'Traveling abroad is a dream, but I'm not fluent in any language...' 'I deserve a better job, but I'm not smart enough...' What limits have you encountered?

Limits are mere constructs, often products of our minds. If your heart desires something, what holds you back? Could you approach it differently? Maybe, just maybe, you're also 'differentable'..."

Happy Easter, dear students and teachers! 🐣

Spring has sprung and it's time to shake off the winter blues and bloom like a beautiful flower. Embrace life by being present in each moment and taking the time to connect with yourself and others. Don't live a life that's not worth thinking about and don't think about a life you're not living. Stay curious like a child and discover the simplicity and beauty in every little thing.
Let's make this Easter egg-cellent! 🌷🐰

There are a million ways to learn a foreign language. Just as a child learns to speak in a completely natural and uncontrolled way, each of us can acquire another language without stress and great effort. Seriously!

You may ask - why do schools always teach a foreign language in a similar way: there is a book, you have to learn vocabulary and grammar, do exercises and write tests. I'll answer - no idea! Most of the time, it's boring, frustrating, and what’s worse, ineffective.

So how to learn then? First of all, naturally and without stress. It’s pretty straightforward - the more fun we have while doing something, the more we do it. The more we do it, the better we get at it. Where do we start? From surrounding yourself with a given language in everyday activities. For example, your phone - change the settings to Spanish if that’s the language you’re wanting to learn. You can watch movies on Netflix in that language too (even with subtitles at the beginning), podcasts, books, audiobooks, games - whatever you like, it can also be in that language. All this will make you understand a given language faster.

Finally, you have to use the language. You need to talk, however talking to yourself at home might
be a bit strange 😉 . Sure, it's worth finding someone with whom you can chat and practice. It would be great if you could find who can correct your mistakes and speak to you in the target
language only. This is where uNick Academy comes to the rescue 💪

If you are a very busy person and you have a hard time finding a slot for an hour-long lesson (plus travel and return), you can meet a uNick Academy teacher on the screen of your phone, tablet, computer, you name it. If a free hour during the day is a luxury, no problem - maybe at least 20 minutes, but several times a week. It even has its benefits - remember, the more often we do something, the better we get at it. One 90-minute lesson is much less effective than a half an hour lesson but three times a week.

Ok, but what if your budget is not prepared for individual lessons - you know, lessons with good teachers have their value. You can then arrange meetings in pairs with a friend with whom you have similar interests, then you divide the cost in half. What if I don't know anyone willing to learn together? This is also not a problem. You can find a course that interests you and join a small group.
How about teaching another language to children? The concept is the same. First of all create an environment for them. You can play them cartoons in that language from an early age. The sooner you start, the less fuss they will make. When you start playing cartoons to a 6-year-old who has only watched them in their native language, prepare yourself for a protest 😬. But, in small steps, you can negotiate watching at least half and half - one story in one language, and one in the other.
Kids love games - from board games to computer games and guess what - they are also a great way to learn a language. Your teen loves Minecraft? Cool! You can change the settings to a
different language and they learn on their own 🕹 🧸 🎮 🎲 🪀

And speaking? Here we come with a whole artillery of classes on various topics, where everyone will be able to learn their chosen language in lessons that are of real interest to them: drawing, science experiments, programming, singing, crafts, playing an instrument - there are many possibilities. I guarantee that if the child likes something and the subject is interesting enough, they will bend over backwards to communicate with the teacher, who obviously only understands the desired language. On the other hand, if you send your child to a typical language course, where she or he will hear “Children let’s open the books and do grammar exercises” I don't know what power of persuasion you have, and even if you explain to your child “it's for your own good”, it can be hard.

Everyone, big or small, if they enjoy what they do, they will always do it more willingly!
Good luck!

The language school on a mission (uNick Academy) is finally going international 🌍

Six years ago we had a dream. We wanted to teach children and adults languages, showing them it does not have to be a stressful, dull process. Our motto is that "Languages can be fun" and our main principle is that the teachers and students do not share the same mothertongue, hence our lessons are target-language based. We started our offline lessons in Rumianek, Poland in the fall of 2016 that we have been doing ever since. Our lessons do not only strengthen our students' language skills but also their creativity and communication skills in an international environment. Our types of lessons were: Fun Science Experiments, Crafts, Guitar, Cooking, Dance, Theatre, Let's Play, Around The World, Teenage Talk and individual lessons. 🧑‍🍳💃✍️

In 2020, when the pandemic hit, we had to transfer to online lessons. We have been offering individual lessons of 15, 30 and 60 minutes and group lessons, such as Let's Play, Around The World, Teenage Talk and Programming. After two years of operating in the Polish market, we have got to the point that we are ready to go fully international. Our lessons are target-language based, tailored to our students' needs, stress-free and exciting. We use our own material and we make sure you enjoy learning your chosen language as much as we enjoy teaching them. 👩‍💻🗽🗼🏝
