Main Purpose of Job:
• To manage the provision of the Out of School Club ensuring that children, parents and the staff team work together to provide high quality childcare.
• To be responsible for the management of day-to-day operations within the Out of School Club, by meeting financial targets and managing the occupancy ensuring maximum capacity.
• To manage a staff team effectively.
• To agree and set Out of School Club goals and monitor the achievement of progress against targets.
• To monitor and assess the quality of provision ensuring that policies and procedures, best practice and standards are maintained
• To possess the highest standards and latest knowledge of practice and serve as an example to the other practitioners within the setting.

• All staff must have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks:
• To work in partnership with children, parents and other professionals to improve the quality of Early Years’ and Out of School Club provision, including physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and care for children in the setting.
• To inspire outstanding practice and share knowledge and understanding of children’s care, learning and development throughout your setting and across the Early Years’ sector.
• To support, mentor and coach other practitioners in the knowledge, skills and behaviours that promote good outcomes for children.
• Show perspective families around the setting.
• Support and supervise staff and trainees in their day to day duties.
• Liaise with parents and other family members as well as other visitors that may be received by the Out of School Club.
• Liaise with the Children’s Information Service, Ofsted and other professionals associated with the day nursery sector.
• Identify staff training and development needs. Co-ordinate internal training and development activities, organise external training events with authorisation from directors. Liaise with training organisations.
• Oversee the upkeep of the building and maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishings and fittings.
• To be responsible for and keep up to date with all administrative duties associated with the management of the facility, e.g. maintaining children’s records, ordering equipment, personnel and training records, etc.
• To be responsible for the administering of a petty cash budget.
• Attending and chairing all staff meetings. Attending regular management meetings.
• Be involved in the day to day planning of activities and ensure that staff are operating a programme of activities suitable to the age range of the children attending the Out of School Club.
• To cover the opening hours of the Out of School Club with and work to a flexible shift rota.
• To arrange cover in the event of staff absence and to actively cover where necessary.
• To liaise with Directors at regular intervals and communicate with all staff.
• To promote and develop the child care provision available at the Out of School Club.
• Communicate and consult with parents about the day-to-day needs of children.
• Maintain positive relationships with parents of all children.
• Show prospective children around the nursery.
• To encourage parents to participate in the activities of the nursery and listen to any suggestions or concerns they may have.
• Adequately communicate to other staff working different shifts on all aspects of the day’s work with children and parents.
• To be adaptable in times of emergency and staff absence to fill-in and to cover when necessary.
• Organise staff rota of working times to suit attendance of children during opening hours.
• Motivate, inspire and lead a team of early years’ practitioners.
• Support, mentor and encourage an ethos of continuous professional development across the setting. Delivering and cascading training where necessary and hosting relevant meetings.
• Introduce/ maintain a positive and proactive culture amongst practitioners demonstrating effective Early Years’ leadership.
• Where necessary, contribute to the work of a multi professional team, circulate and implement agreed programme interventions.
• Support parents/carers in their relationship with their children.
• Encourage a culture of listening throughout the setting, valuing and respecting everyone’s views.
• Ensure consistent opportunities for a two way flow of effective communication.
• Create and maintain a culture of collaborative and co-operative working with all practitioners in the setting. Provide opportunities to enable practitioners to contribute to the development of the setting, the self evaluation book and other methods of evaluation.
• Where necessary, contribute to the work of a multi professional team, circulate and implement agreed programme interventions.

• To have full regard to the requirements of the Statutory Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage for those under the age of 5 years.

• To use professional knowledge of the individual and diverse ways that children learn and develop, to meet their differing needs.
• To establish positive and sensitive relationships with children.
• To act as a role model and set achievable expectations.
• To be responsible for organising the environment inside and outside to ensure that resources and equipment are available and appropriate to meet the needs of the individual children in the group. These activities will consider children’s abilities interests, language and cultural backgrounds.
• Participate in activities which develop each child in the group to their fullest potential.
• Record as required details of children’s attendance and any daily information given by the parents.
• To liaise closely with parents /carers, informing them about the Out of School Club and its planned activities, exchanging information about the children’s time with us and encouraging parental involvement.
• Always provide a safe and healthy environment for all children in the group, reporting any concerns with regards to the premises, outdoor area and equipment to the Manager or the Out of School Club Leader.
• To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff members, which is obtained as part of the job.
• To provide comfort and care at all times and ensure that children feel welcome and safe.
• Be involved in supervision of children in free play and outside play.
• To assist with domestic duties as required.
• Be familiar with safeguarding including own responsibilities together with care and risk assessment.
• To communicate with the manager and Out of School Club Leader, supporting the planning and implementation of activities with individuals or groups of children, promoting effective teaching and learning.
• To meet the physical needs of children, encouraging good standards of personal hygiene, whilst promoting independence.
• To provide support for the children’s emotional and social needs by implementing the principles of our Promoting Positive Behaviour Policy and role modelling high standards in all aspects of their role and personal conduct.
• To encourage children to interact and work co-operatively with others.
• To support the Company’s commitment on safeguarding children in all aspects of the service.
• To have a knowledge of and adhere to all Health and Safety Regulations.
• To attend meetings as required and participate in training opportunities and performance development to further your Continued Professional Development which may sometimes be in your own time.
• To be accountable for the delivery of the above responsibilities and tasks.
• To undertake any duties set to you by the Management Team that will assist in the day-to-day running of the out of school club.
Additional Information
• This role does not directly supervise other employees, however, supervisory responsibility maybe given for temporarily assigned students or work placements. In addition, peer moderation and support through professional discussions will be expected to form the basis of developing good practice on a day-to-day basis.
• This post is exempt from The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 as the position involves working within the close proximity of young children.
• The post holder will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and to be a member of the DBS Update Service. It may be requested that a new DBS is applied for if you are not on the update service, this will be at your own cost.
• All staff will be subject to regular supervision sessions and will be required to sign a suitability declaration on a quarterly basis to ensure that ongoing suitability is monitored.
• All staff must hold an in date paediatric first aid certificate although training can be given on this.
• All employees are made aware of their responsibility to notify the manager immediately of any changes to their circumstances that may affect their suitability to work with children – this is also the case in terms of any changes to the circumstances of those who live with the member of staff.
