Our trays are out in the garden every day, whatever the theme!

I’m not always the best at remembering to take photos before the children get stuck in, but here are a few simple tray play ideas from half term that kept the play open-ended, engaging and lots of fun:

1) Coloured water, cornflour and a selection of utensils
A fantastic sensory activity that encouraged curiosity, exploration and colour recognition. The children loved mixing, pouring and discovering how the texture changed.

2) Bubbles with a variety of wands
Simple but always a favourite! Bubble play helps develop both gross and fine motor skills as children wave, chase, pop and experiment with different ways of making bubbles.

3) Water tray with frogs and lily pads
A great invitation to play that encouraged colour recognition, counting, imaginative play and exploring concepts such as floating and sinking.

Sometimes the simplest setups create the richest learning opportunities.

Late spring / late summer has been about nature.
We have been celebrating David Attenborough’s birthday throughout May.
We have taken nature walks, visited the zoo, bug hunts in the back garden.
The children had really loved seeing what we could find and exploring the outdoors.
Safe to say we will be visiting more local parks, zoos and outdoor spaces over the summer

Happy Childminding Week!

Being a childminder is so much more than a job — it’s about creating a safe, happy and nurturing environment where children can learn, play and thrive.

Every day brings new smiles, funny moments, messy play, milestones and lots of learning. I’m proud to support children as they grow in confidence and discover the world around them.

Thank you to all the families who are part of my little setting

Saturday was a wonderful day, the turn out was amazing seeing everyone enjoying a good old fashioned fete, traditional games and home grown plants & craft stalls whilst eating good food and socialising with the local community and managing to raise some incredible and much needed funding for our favourite local outdoor space 💖

The last couple of days we’ve have wonderful weather so we’ve have a few outdoor tuff trays to go alongside our indoor ones.

I don’t always post what we do as I currently don’t have any early years spaces and I only have wrap around for Whitegate school and school holiday cover.

Some days are picking the children up, offering a safe space to decompress after a school day and filling tummies and then others we get crafts out, play games, read books, role play or go out in the garden.

I plan to post more of the activities but I don’t post photos of th children so I have to try and remember to get set up photos for you all.

Special thanks to Bex over at Bekkie's Little Acorns - Childminding Services for recommending the flower garden 🥰
