Sparrows Class has new carpets! Thank you so much to all the parents who brought cinema night tickets and a massive thank to you to Pierrepont Gamston Primary School PTA who also donated to allow us to buy the second one. 💚 from the Early Years Team 💚

We can’t wait to welcome the children back this week and hope you have had a lovely summer.

Don’t forget we have two inset days on Tuesday and Wednesday so the first day back for children is on Thursday 3rd September.

The heating work has been completed over the summer but some of the roofing work is still being completed this week so the scaffolding is still up. The whole school has been painted and a wonderful new hall floor installed.

We have a lovely Reception class starting in September 2026, with a small number of places still available. It’s not too late to join us!

Great British Summer Savings

From 25th June to 1st September
2026, the Government is temporarily
cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on
children's meals in restaurants,
children and family tickets to cinemas,
theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and
admission to a wide range of
attractions. As part of this campaign,
DfE have launched an attraction finder
website which allows you to enter
your postcode and find participating
venues near you to make the most of
summer savings. To use the attraction
finder, please visit https://summersavings.gov.uk

In addition to this, children aged 5-15
are able to travel by bus for free.

For those parents whose child is going into year 6. The application window is open…

📣 Secondary school applications are now open!

If your child lives in Nottinghamshire and requires a secondary school place for September 2027, you need to apply before 31 October 2026.

Applying online is quick and easy.

Parents sometimes think that selecting just one school will ensure that a place is offered but that is not the case. It is important that you make use of all four preferences and apply on time for a better chance of being offered a preferred school. Please check carefully the admissions criteria of each school you are considering because they are not all the same.

If there are no places available at your preferred school, an alternative offer may be made but this is not automatically the catchment or nearest school. Places will be offered at the next closest school with places available after all on-time applications have been processed. This may mean your child could be allocated to a school some distance from where you live.

Today year 6 had an incredibly exciting afternoon heading to Trent Bridge for the first day of the Hundred tournament thanks to Henry and Aarush who won a competition to design a teamwork poster.

They sent the Trent Rockets coach to pick us up, we had some coaching and showed off some excellent cricket! Thanks so much to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club for making it happen!

What an exciting way to start a Monday morning! We were so lucky to have Sam Oldham in school today sharing his Olympic journey with us, and we were definitely wowed by his assembly!

We got to see the Olympic torch he ran with, his Olympic medal, and some of his amazing gymnastic skills! There were lots of chins on the floor when he did a handstand walk over some of the children! Every class had a coaching session with him today, and did lots of fun activities linked to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games which starts on Thursday. I'm sure the children have come home today with lots of stories to tell 😊

Our final week of term is here! We have some additional events for year 6 leavers in addition to these dates.

What a wonderful celebration of sport and our school values to end the year.

Our final newsletter will also be coming out on Friday - if anyone has anything to share their child has achieved over the last month we would love to celebrate it!
