Interested researchers across our five partner universities, Nottingham Trent University, the University of Nottingham, Loughborough University, the University of Leicester and De Montfort University, and colleagues within communityโ€‘focused organisations across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland are invited to complete their collaborative, communityโ€‘engaged research project proposals for our 2027 PhD and Research Placement cohort.

Proposals should be shaped by the local research priorities identified across the region, ensuring they respond meaningfully to community need. Submissions with a life sciences, chemistry or physics focus are particularly encouraged.

Weโ€™re delighted to share that Bethany Gill, international canoe sprint athlete and PhD Researcher, has been awarded Citizen Researcher, with a Special Commendation also presented to the Collaboratory Research Hub, at Nottingham Trent Universityโ€™s Annual Open Research Awards.

Bethanyโ€™s recognition follows a rigorous assessment of her microbiology project exploring water pollution and its impact on local communities.

Collaboratory Research Hub was commended for our commitment to open research practices, including participatory agenda-setting, open-access researcher development, and the building of inclusive doctoral infrastructure.

Huge congratulations to Bethany and her team, and thank you to everyone who continues to support our commitment to community-centred and impactful research.

We are hosting our final Research Coโ€‘Creation Workshop for communityโ€‘focused organisations, professionals, and researchers from De Montfort University, the University of Leicester, and Loughborough University at the DMU Innovation Centre on Friday 26 June, from 1 pm to 4 pm. This event will bring together interested participants to shape conversations on developing collaborative, communityโ€‘centred research projects.

Participants will have the opportunity to connect with potential collaborators, explore and refine early research project ideas, and receive expert guidance on developing highโ€‘quality, collaborative projects.

This session is ideal for colleagues who want to learn more about the Collaboratory Research Hub, understand what weโ€™re looking for in proposals for the 2027 PhD and Research Placement cohorts, and explore how communityโ€‘engaged, challengeโ€‘led research can be developed in partnership.

During the webinar, weโ€™ll share an overview of the programme, outline the key requirements for submitting a proposal, and provide time for questions.
