🦙 Alpaca adventures! 🦙

We had two very special visitors come to see us — a pair of friendly alpacas! The children were incredibly brave and excited to meet them, getting up close to observe them and learn more about these gentle animals.

Many of the children were confident enough to give the alpacas a little stroke, and there were lots of smiles as everyone enjoyed this unique experience. Some of our House Martins even had the exciting opportunity to help walk the alpacas around the car park, showing fantastic confidence and responsibility throughout. 🌟

Experiences like these encourage curiosity, build self-confidence, and create wonderful memories that the children will be talking about for a long time to come. 💚

🦋 Watching a magical transformation! 🐛

The children across the nursery have been excitedly checking on our caterpillars. The final caterpillar has made its way to the top and will soon begin its own transformation too. 😊

We talked about the incredible process called metamorphosis. The children learned that caterpillars start out very small, then spend lots of time eating and growing bigger and bigger. Once they are ready, they hang upside down and form a hard shell around themselves called a chrysalis – like a little house! Inside, a wonderful change takes place before they emerge as beautiful butterflies. 🦋✨

The children have been completely mesmerised watching the changes and loved observing the caterpillars closely. They did a fantastic job remembering to be gentle, looking with their eyes and keeping the pot nice and still to help keep our tiny friends safe. 💛🐛

We can't wait to see our beautiful butterflies emerge! 🌸🦋

The House Martins have been exploring the many different flags featured in the World Cup! We started by working together to create a giant England flag as England play today! ❤️🤍

From there, we looked closely at the colours, patterns, and shapes used by different countries and talked about what makes each flag unique. The children enjoyed spotting similarities and differences before having a go at recreating some of their favourites. 🌍🎨

To finish, we put our creativity to work by designing our very own flags, thinking carefully about the colours, symbols, and shapes we wanted to include. It was a fantastic way to learn about the wider world while developing fine motor skills, creativity, and an appreciation of different cultures. ✨

🪱 Wriggly work in progress!

Our children have been busy creating their very own wormery composter, following guidance from the Natural History Museum's worm composter activity.

We drilled holes, stacked the boxes, and filled them with compost and some of our snack leftovers, ready to create a cosy home for some hardworking worms! 🥕🍎🌱

We headed out on a worm hunt, but our wriggly friends seemed to be hiding from us! We'll keep searching over the coming week and hope to welcome some worms into our wormery soon, where they can help break down our food scraps and turn them into nutrient-rich compost.

What a fantastic way to celebrate Great Big Green Week while learning about recycling, sustainability, and caring for our environment! 🌍💚

📸🌿 Woodland Bingo Adventures! 🌿📸

Our Woodland Bingo activity was a fantastic way to explore Forest School while encouraging the children to look closely at the natural world around them! Armed with our mini camera, the children ticked off their discoveries by taking photographs of everything that caught their eye — from beetles and spider webs to foxgloves and beautifully textured tree bark. 🍃🕷️🐞

It was wonderful to see the children making their own choices about what they wanted to capture and investigate. Back at nursery, we'll be adding their photographs to our Discovery Board so we can continue our learning and conversations about our woodland finds. 📷✨

The fun didn't stop there! The children were also busy in the woodland kitchen creating nature-inspired recipes, using the pulley system, and challenging themselves with plenty of climbing and exploration. 🪵🍂💪

🎨 Nature makes the best paintbrushes! 🌿

As we continue into our second week of 30 Days Wild, the children have been finding creative ways to connect with nature and explore the world around them. 🌱

Using natural resources collected on a nature walk and from our garden, we created a beautiful large-scale piece of artwork! 🌺

We used pinecones, flowers, ferns and other pieces of foliage as paintbrushes, alongside a variety of paints for the children to choose from. 🎨🌿

The children loved experimenting with different techniques, making unique prints and patterns across the paper. Some children mixed colours together to create new shades, while others used their hands to add colourful handprints! 🖐️🌈

Activities like this encourage creativity, curiosity and a deeper appreciation of nature, helping children discover that the natural world can inspire learning and play in so many different ways. 💚

👩‍🍳 Little chefs at work! 🧀🌿

Our Wrens enjoyed their very own Cooking Club as they made delicious cheese and chive bread! We used dairy-free cheese so that all of our friends could enjoy taking part, along with fresh chives picked from our garden. 🌱

The babies loved taking turns mixing the ingredients, scooping the mixture into the tray and watching as it was prepared for the oven. 🥣

Cooking activities offer so many benefits for our youngest children. They help to develop fine motor skills through stirring, scooping and pouring, whilst also supporting hand-eye coordination and concentration. Following simple steps introduces early mathematical concepts such as measuring and quantity, and exploring different textures, smells and tastes provides valuable sensory experiences. ✨

Most importantly, cooking together encourages confidence, turn-taking and communication as the children share the activity with their friends and practitioners. 💚

There was lots of excitement as the babies helped create their very own bread. Taking part in the whole process, from mixing the ingredients to preparing it for the oven, gave the children a real sense of achievement. We can't wait to try a slice and see what everyone thinks of their homemade cheese and chive bread! 😋🌿
