This is my current read and I’ve really been enjoying learning more about SOVT methods and vocal health.

Recently, I’ve had my own vocal challenges. After struggling with my voice and sinuses, a CT scan revealed a sinus cyst, and not long after, I suddenly lost most of my voice. That led to a laryngoscopy - “what a pleasant experience” 😂😬 Thankfully, the conclusion was that my vocal cords are completely healthy, with no issues at all.

The whole experience reminded me just how important vocal care is, especially for anyone who sings, teaches, performs or works in music.

SOVT exercises (including straw phonation) can be incredibly beneficial for voice recovery, rehabilitation, training and general vocal maintenance. They’re often used to prepare the voice, improve coordination, reduce vocal strain and help transition smoothly into singing. Different SOVTs create different patterns of resistance, for example, a straw creates steady resistance and helps encourage more efficient vocal function and resonance.

Looking after your voice really matters and sometimes your body reminds you of that the hard way!

Our student summer concert is coming up soon!

Here’s a look at the programme and some of the performers taking part this year. Looking forward to hearing everyone perform and celebrating all their hard work 🫶

Here’s my student singing “Try” by Pink and if you listen carefully, she’s got herself a backing vocalist too…my cat - Boo 😂

Boo recently had a little taste of the outdoors and now spends half his life frantically meowing at the front door wanting to go exploring. I live in the city though, so he’s definitely not wandering anywhere haha.

Guste was also battling through a sore arm today, but she still gave this recording everything she had. Super proud of her 🫶
