One of our rules of engagement - probably the foundation for us of all good engagement - is an adult-adult approach. Which means:
➡️ We know that we don't have all the answers (far from it!) And nor do we have to.
➡️We enormously value people's input - their thoughts, ideas, suggestions, feedback, and sentiments.
➡️We know that people have a choice to engage with us or not. Our job is to create and communicate activities that make people want to get involved, and,
➡️ We know 100 per cent that we are doing things with people not to them - because we do things better when we work together.

💫 Excellent engagement looks like.... listening without judgment.
➡️ Non-judgement is an important factor in engaging people.
➡️ Of course, the very act of asking people what they think and feel means that we are not relying on our own perceptions and understanding, and are valuing other people's opinions.
➡️ And by listening truly openly, and freeing ourselves of expectations of what we think we will hear, we can learn so much.
(*To paraphrase George Michael, it's about 'listening without prejudice').
(*Bit of a nineties reference there. But couldn't be avoided to be honest....just had to be done 🎶🎶🎶 )

⭐ Excellent engagement looks like....
📣 Telling people. What you're doing with what they told you. Feeding back on their feedback.
📣 Letting people known what you've heard. What actions you're taking. And what happens next.
🔗 Because keeping people in the loop is one of the easiest and most important ways to build trust and connection and create a platform for continued engagement.

Happy Friday! And as it's also International Haiku Day - and as it's fair to say we're obsessed with words and poetry especially - we had to share our own which sums up one of the reasons we do what we do:
we engage people
because together we can
help shape things better.

❓ How does it feel when you are engaged?
➡️ Valued?
➡️Included?
➡️Important?
➡️Heard?
We don't just engage people to find out what they think, they need, they want. We don't just involve people to tap into their knowledge and expertise. We also engage people because it makes people feel...valued, included, important, heard. And so much more.
And when people feel all these things, we can build lasting, meaningful connections.
