Art Club has begun mono-printing using black block-printing ink on paper. The first week the medium was introduced with 'mark-making' and using playful, gestural marks onto the surface to create a reverse image.

Art Club printed cards for a loved-one based on a 'hands' drawing by artist Henry Moore (his sculptures can be seen in the grounds of the UEA).

Students then developed a design to print using the 'waste method' on polystyrene printing sheets. Over the course of a few weeks students have introduced layers of block-colour into their artwork to create a 'repeat pattern' effect.

Current Project in Art Club🎨

Clay Gargoyle
This course uses hand-moulding to create a Gargoyle from clay (suitable for a battery-operated tea-light)
(all materials provided)
Techniques, skills and knowledge include:
Introduction to Gothic Gargoyles with images
Drawing, colour-ways and photography of individual students to give inspiration for Gargoyles colour and character
Explore the properties and characteristics of air-dry clay through play and experimentation
Moulding a series of 3D shapes; cylinder, sphere, cuboid, torus
Tutorial and hands-on help in how to exaggerated facial features as inspiration for a Gargoyle
How to use hands to form a pinch-pot
How to use plastic and metal clay tools
Scoring, joining and moulding to form the facial features of a unique Gargoyle based on students' faces
Clay-painting in acrylic and varnishing of final piece
