A little woodland magic is waiting in the woods ✨🌿

This week’s Story Box Adventures session is Fern Fairy and the Ribbon Tree, where little ones will help Fern Fairy find her lost magic, meet woodland creatures along the way and step right into the story through movement, role play and imaginative play.

Something new is coming to WildTots 🌿📖

This September and October, we’re welcoming Rosalind from Act Out Education into the woods for a new series of Woodland Story Box Adventures.

Each session begins with the Story Box opening to reveal a new world of props, puppets and characters, before little ones become part of the story themselves through movement, music, role play, crafts and imaginative play.

One week might take us in search of a fairy’s lost magic, another into Bug Town, a muddled-up world of seasons or a jungle missing all its colours.

The forest becomes the stage, the children become part of the story, and no two sessions are quite the same.

For children 18 months+ with their grown-ups

From caterpillars to butterflies, we’ve watched the whole life cycle unfold 🦋

Over the past few weeks, the children have observed the caterpillars grow, form their chrysalises and emerge as butterflies. They recorded what they noticed through drawings, journals and plenty of close-up investigation along the way.

This month came the best bit: releasing the butterflies into our Norfolk woodland and watching them take their first flights!

A hands-on early years nature experience that brought life cycles, insects and the natural world right in front of them. And one butterfly stayed for a little extra attention before heading off.

This Sunday, we’re weaving in the woods 🌿

Join us for a morning of willow weaving in our woodland, where you’ll learn traditional basketry techniques and make your own garden bird feeder from natural willow.

Louisa and Zach will guide you through bending, shaping and securing the willow, with plenty of time to get properly stuck into the making. No previous experience needed, and all materials are provided.

There’ll be a small group of women, fresh air, tea, coffee and homemade bakes. A pretty good way to spend a Sunday morning we think!

We made boats in the woods. Obviously, they had to be tested ⛵

The children designed their own boats using bark, sticks, leaves, feathers and recycled paper, then took them to the water to find out what happened.

Would they float? Would they tip? Could they move? And what needed changing when the first idea did not quite go to plan?

As part of our July theme, Change and Journeys, the children have been making predictions, solving problems and adapting their designs through hands-on woodland play.

Our next Made Outside workshop is this weekend and it is all about indigo, pattern and the very satisfying bit where you unfold the fabric and see what happened.

💙 The Indigo Dye Workshop

Fold, clamp and dye your own scarf or tote bag using traditional Japanese Shibori techniques, guided by textile artist Sevanti Roy.

Held outdoors in the woods at GroWild, this hands-on indigo dyeing workshop in Norwich is for a small group of women, with plenty of time spent actually making.

Traditional skills. Natural indigo. Good company. Something very nice to take home afterwards.
