English, science, maths.

My outdoor tutoring sessions help children light their learning spark again using a purposeful, kinaesthetic approach to accessing the curriculum. The sessions are suitable for children who are in need of some inspiration, focus and self esteem building, such as those with/in:

-alternative provision
-home education
-ADHD
-Autism
-SEMH

Embracing nature, being outside, moving around – hands on learning under open sky.

Outdoors is our classroom, to help reconnect you with the joy of learning - and experience how powerfully language, real life learning and the outdoors go hand in hand.

Natural settings provide sensory input that is engaging but not overwhelming, allowing attention to stay regulated and curiosity to emerge. Research on attention restoration shows that when the brain is under fewer cognitive demands, it has more capacity to notice patterns, make connections, and ask questions.

Movement further supports this process by increasing cognitive flexibility and engagement. When children ask more questions outside, it’s not distraction — it’s a sign that the brain feels safe, regulated, and ready to learn.

Outdoor maths can look like magic potion making to develop measuring skills, practicing mental maths using dice to decide quantities of leaves to put in the cauldron, or counting nails to hammer into a 3D block, using the language of shape and space.

Kids often ask more questions outdoors than they do indoors, and this is closely tied to how the brain responds to different environments. Indoor spaces are structured and goal-oriented, which limits the need for curiosity once expectations are clear. Outdoors, the environment is open-ended and constantly changing, encouraging children to observe, wonder, and explore.

NEW for 2026 - tutoring with me!

Head to the Roots website to find out more about hands on learning, under the open sky.

This little reel so beautifully demonstrates a taster of the rich ways that outdoor learning can develop speech and language, numeracy, self esteem, risk awareness, confidence and focus for children - especially for those who may find concentration tricky inside the classroom.

Get in touch if you would like to discuss ways in which I can support your child with their learning journey.
