Taste Explorering Lentil Bolognese!
After one of our children excitedly shared their love of "spicy pasta" and asked if we could make some together, we took some inspiration from a recent course from and decided to create our own delicious lentil Bolognese!
The children washed their hands and took turns helping with the preparation. They chopped celery, grated carrots, peeled and crushed garlic, cut onions, and sprinkled in herbs and lentils. It was wonderful to see everyone working together, exploring different textures, smells, and ingredients.
This activity also linked beautifully to Montessori Practical Life experiences. Through preparing real food using real tools, the children developed independence, concentration, coordination, and a sense of responsibility. Taking part in meaningful everyday tasks helps children build confidence and fosters a feeling of belonging within their community.
Once everything was prepared, the Bolognese was cooked and served during circle time. The children were invited to taste their creation and share their thoughts with their friends. We were so proud of how willing they were to try something new and celebrate the meal they had helped make themselves!
I wonder what we will try next....
