ICYMI, from Durrington Research School: From theory to practice - how we make sure the theory shared in our training programmes becomes a reality in the classrooms of our participants.
"The difficulties in turning theory into practice have become apparent to us over time. Certainly in year one as a research school we struggled to see how we could ensure that those that attended took the principles that we had shared, and embedded them in their various settings. Over time though, we have become more attuned to this tension and through our own experience, but crucially some key models of planning, thinking and facilitation, have designed our training to be a more reliable lever for change."

The Summer Reading Challenge is here! This year's theme is Wild World Heroes: a celebration of nature and action for the environment, in partnership with WWF UK.
"The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays and aims to support children’s reading for pleasure and prevent a dip in reading over the six-week break.
As well as supporting literacy, reading is a fantastic way to promote mental wellbeing and have fun.
You can set your own reading goals, but we recommend reading six books."

Great stuff from Diverse Educators: Reflections on Improving Diversity and Inclusion in Science Teaching.
Suzanne Wood writes: "“Think of a scientist… imagine that scientist in your mind, imagine what they look like, what they do at work, the clothes they wear…. Now imagine them at home with their family, think about what their family looks like.”
I often start my year 7 and 8 classes with this exercise at the very beginning of the year. I ask them to draw a picture of the scientist and their family. Around 95% of them draw an old, white man with slightly fuzzy hair wearing a lab coat, his wife and their two children. It is always clear that the prevailing idea of scientists as straight, white men is still dominant in today’s society."
