Year 5 celebrated Day of Welcome on Friday by looking at courage. We looked at the word courage and found out that to act with courage is to act with heart. We learned about some of the ways in which people have had to show courage through difficult times along with refugees moving to new places.

The children then made their own 'Courage' cup and decided what kinds of things these could be awarded for. For example: for someone who is moving to a new country, someone who has had to leave their home or someone who always makes others feel welcome.

Some of our Year 5 and 6 girls attended a cricket tournament on Tuesday at Postwick Cricket club. All the girls were fantastic! They tried so hard and as the day progressed, so did their cricketing skills! Well done girls!

On Friday 5 June we held our draw for the reading 'Golden Tickets'.

The winners were:
A girl from Flamingos class.
Alex - Pelicans
Theo - Canaries
Ava - Pelicans
Each child was rewarded with a book from a selection we earned from the last Book Fair. This will run again this half term and each child who reaches their reading target will be given a 'Golden Ticket' to put in our box for the next draw in July.

The winners of the word count competition were also announced. The class in each year group who had collectively read the most words were:
Year 3 Flamingos - 1, 911,665 words
Year 4 Herons - 3,972,064 words
Year 5 Goldfinches - 4,718,028 words
Year 6 Toucans - 3,179,647 words

Each class was rewarded with a book for each child. Again this will be running this half term so please encourage your child to read and quiz as much as possible to help their class increase their word count!

A child in each class received nominations for showing enthusiasm, kindness and teamwork and respect during their afternoon sessions each week. One winner from each year group is then selected to receive the PE award in our celebration assembbly and a credit.

As reading is such an important life skill and the perfect way for children to relax and take themselves on imaginary adventures, we are always encouraging them to develop a passion for reading for pleasure. To motivate and reward them for their achievements, we award an amazing badge for every 1 million words they read during each school year.
We would like to say a big well done to the following children who received their badge in one of our Celebration assemblies last half term. This is a huge achievement - well done and keep up the great reading.
