Nursery / Preschool education for children with Special Educational Needs &/or Disabilities (SEND) Together we focus on ability rather than disability.

The Treasure Box is in the centre of the rural village of Hickling, and it provides a safe, secure and supportive place for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities to grow, learn and develop at their own pace. A great idea to grab a child's attention...

Attention Autism Stage 1 Space

This creative idea was sent to me by Simone Dobbin. Simone was working with a child at home, so the session was 1:1. The programme is designed for groups of children, but it works 1:1 too when circumstances mean that is the way forward. We can be flexible!

Stage 1 Bucket Resources: Blow up astronaut, colander and torch to create a starry night

Thank you, Simone, for sharing your ideas...I will never look at a colander in the same way again.

In my post yesterday I shared some thoughts on reading resources to support younger learners.

A space to celebrate and share nursery rhymes is also crucial too!

That’s why we make sharing nursery rhymes part of our every day rhythm. We’ve set up this small world farm to go alongside ‘The farmers in his den’ rhyme. Our alphabet rhyme time book is a really useful support for provision too.

Did you know that research into child development shows that if a child can recall 8 nursery rhymes by the time they are 4 years old then they usually go on to be some of the best readers and spellers by year 3!

Such a great way to keep the child at the centre of our excellent early years practice 😁🥰
