Hewett Academy are proud to announce that two of our students, Itohan and Nishreya, have won this year's Young Norfolk Writers Competition!
Itohan won the ‘Year of Reading’ category with her speech ‘The Quiet Power of Words’. An emotive piece that encourages young people to be expressive and brave through their writing, to connect with and inspire others. While Nishreya’s poignant short story 'Everything Felt Ordinary’ uses the mundanity of a school day to explore and reflect on feelings of change.
The National Centre for Writing has been championing creative writing through the Young Norfolk Writers Competition for over a decade, and we are honoured that Itohan and Nishreya’s hard work has been recognised by them. Congratulations!

As we bring GCSE PE back into our curriculum for the next academic year and prepare to move into our brand new building, we wanted to mark the occasion by giving our new Year 10 GCSE PE students something they could genuinely be proud of. 🖤🤍

Their bespoke PE shirts with individual numbers stays true to our school identity while recognising them as the first cohort embarking on this exciting new chapter.

We hope wearing it gives them a real sense of belonging and pride as they set the standard for those who follow.

Here’s to the start of something special. 🌟💪

Congratulations to our ten students who finished runners-up in today’s Y8 mixed Chance to Compete competition! Boundaries were scored and wickets taken across the day🥈6️⃣☝️4️⃣👏

They came 2nd in Group A in the morning, following two wins and one loss. In the afternoon, they won a Quarter Final against Notre Dame High School before then a Semi Final victory versus Aylsham High School. 🏏🙌

This set-up a Final with Thorpe St Andrew School. A strong total was set by the opponents and unfortunately Team Hewett did not have enough to chase it down.

It was a fabulous event, superbly organised by Norfolk Cricket Foundation. Students loved it and they richly deserved their mini McFlurries prior to returning to school 👍☀️🍨

We were delighted to welcome poet Lewis Buxton, author of Mate Arias, to work with our Year 10 students. During a creative writing and poetry workshop, students created poems inspired by their names and friendships, enjoying plenty of creativity, laughter and memorable moments along the way.

Last week our Year 10 students had their work experience week and for many of them this was their first time venturing into the working world. Over 45 employers hosted placements, and we are so thankful to them for offering these opportunities. Our students got the chance to experience areas such as finance, retail, healthcare, gardening, law, trades, hospitality, laboratory science, marketing, construction, cultural institutions, engineering, community organisations, schools and conservation.

We are starting to receive feedback from our students and employers, both of which have been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you for our students putting "respect, dedication, aspiration" into practice and being a credit to our school.

A lovely day on the north Norfolk coast completing year 10 GCSE Field work with some lovely year 11s who came back to help.

Our Year 7s had a lovely morning during their gardening intervention, where they spent time harvesting herbs and learning how to prepare their own herbal tea. They carefully selected and combined different ingredients before making the tea, which they delivered to members of staff around the school. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop practical skills, teamwork, and confidence while spreading a little kindness. 🫖☕️🪴
