Well one of my Monday sessions fully prepped and ready to go. Consolidating a lot of the Year 3 curriculum whilst pushing my students into the murky puddle of the upcoming Year 4 bits and bobs. Good preparation over the summer holidays gives children such a boost in confidence going into the new term.

Still lots of holiday smiles left to have without that sense of worry going up into a new class.

Confidence is the key to happiness!

I have a young family so a cheeky Sunday 5:30 start here and there is the only way that I’m ever going to get this beast finished!

Let’s hope they stay asleep for a while yet…

@@—Book Of The Week—@@

Malamander by the very talented

A brilliant book that will appeal to all lovers of adventure, mystery and clever description. It appeals to me especially as I grew up in a coastal town not a million miles from the one in the book.

A must for any bookshelf both adult and young…

Early morning GCSE maths sessions!!

This week’s learning with my fab four of year threes. The game takes almost exactly an hour and covers all of the relevant bases of the stalwarts of maths and English whilst touching on all of the other arts and humanities plus some local bits and general knowledge. I like to push them quite a bit as I find if they know they are completing tasks that would normally be given to a year 4 or 5 they go back into school brimming with confidence.

My 6 year old son has obviously been eavesdropping my conversations and plans for my book and this evening presented me with his own plan for a rival story to maybe be released at the same time!! I may have inadvertently inspired a literary rival. To be honest his ideas seem much better than mine - takes after his mother!

Holed up in Aldi car park awaiting the awakening of my youngest child! Thought I’d get ahead and also share with you a technique that can be used by writers of all ages.

I, like many before me, have started to write a book with a friend of mine. We obviously have rather lofty ambitions that the thing might one day be published and end up gracing every bookshelf in the land. For now though we are writing it more for ourselves - we’ll compose a loose chapter every week (babysquashing duties permitting) then meet up for a coffee to see how we can cannibalize the two to form our best version...

As I said - I’m still sat with a mouth-agape toddler outside a supermarket - so have been thinking of themes for our tome and then listing all the likely synonyms that might one day improve our story. At school we might call it a “Cheat Sheet” or “Word Bank”. Whatever it is, I find it helps both writing a story and more importantly editing it!

PS our story might be set by the sea...
