Children’s Anti Bullying – Self Protection Workshop

A new school or even a new school year can bring a mixture of emotions from excitement to anxiety in children.

And as parents we want our children to have fun learning and feel safe whilst at school.

SESMA’s Anti Bullying – Self Protection workshop will give your children the confidence to know what to do in the event of bullying, but even more importantly how to protect themselves before even bullying starts.

A short version of the course was recently taught by SESMA at local junior & infant schools in the area.

The extended workshop covers how to:

Improve Awareness Skills
Body Language – Your own and read others
De-escalation – How to Talk & Walk away
Defend Themselves – If all else fails
Aftermath - Speaking to teachers and parents

Also each participant will be given:

A Parent Advice Sheet on how to spot if your child is being bullied and how to raise the subject with your child and with the school.

What is the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts?

The Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts recognises clubs in England who have demonstrated that they have reached and maintained good safeguarding standards.

The scheme empowers parents/carers and educational establishments to make informed decisions when selecting a club or provider for their child/children, young people or adults in their care.

The Safeguarding Code has been developed through close consultation between Sport England, representatives from martial arts governing bodies and those with years of expertise in safeguarding. Support was also provided by the Child Protection in Sport Unit, the Ann Craft Trust and NWG Network.

It is funded by the National Lottery and was launched by the Sports Minister in early 2018.

The advantage of having a purpose martial arts studio, is that we can provide a super safe environment for all who train at SESMA.

Working on improving our Self Defence workshop for junior schools.

Emphasis on awareness to avoid conflict is more important than fighting.

Involving the children, get them thinking instead of just dictating to them.

Fun drills and practical releases/defence.

And then be able to adapt it between 60 & 35min sessions.

So much to teach, hardest part is deciding what to leave out 😂

Wayne was nominated at the NEST Martial Arts awards evening, for the work we having been doing for LGBTQ and Transgender community.

This includes working with Andrew Copeman with providing free self defence workshops for the transgender community.

Making subtle changes to the sesma/Besafe studio, so those that are gender diverse know that it is a safe place and non judgmental.

Staff and instructors attending Gender Diversity Workshops so that we have a clearer understanding.

Attending rallies and protests to experience first hand the antagonism and hatred that the LGBTQ suffer.
