In this mornings group session we have learnt how to draw Kawaii animals, finished our creative writing from last week, fought ghosts (again haha), and we played a game that led to a writing challenge. We explored what nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs are, then we each had one minute to write as many as we could before passing the piece of paper on to the next person (each piece of paper had either a noun, adjective, verb or adverb on). Once we all had written on each of the pieces of paper we then picked three from each category and wrote a short story including those words. The children did amazingly well and had great fun doing it π
They're building up their skills in a fun and relaxing environment with no restrictions π
If you'd like to pop along then please don't hesitate to get in contact with me via [email protected]

π What have we learnt this week at Mindshift Learning? π
Well it's been an eventful week of one-to-one tutoring and group intervention at a couple of local schools π
This week my students have learnt about:
- Sigmund Freud and his Psychodynamic Approach - if you get a chance definitely read up on his Oedipus and Electra complex theories, very controversial!
- Rosa Parks and how her actions helped lead to social change! We applied our knowledge of important figures and groups (like the suffragettes) who have contributed to societal social change and analysed their behaviour on a psychological level (how they influenced the majority)
- Different types of poems and writing poetry about sunflowers using similes, adjectives, personification etc to help us engage the reader more
- A Christmas Carol and answering exam questions on this text to prepare for an English Literature exam! I've taken this student throughout their English Literature and Language GCSEs as a home educated student
- Creative writing and what needs to be included in our piece as well as illustrating our own stories!
- How to write cohesively for those primary school aged children who struggle with this, and so we've also learnt about conjunctions and connecting clauses
It's been such a fun week and I always try and ensure that my sessions with students are led by them and their interests. I work at their pace so that they feel confident in what they're doing.
What a fabulous week! Now ready to prepare for two more sessions tomorrow, one focusing on A-level English Literature texts and the other focusing on ways of investigating the brain for A-level Psychology!
