SH BSL Training Centre We offer a variety of Signature accredited courses (Level 1-4) as well as bespoke courses for British Sign Language.

Much of Steve’s skill in teaching comes from his own learning experience and a deep-seated pride that comes from being part of the Deaf Community. Steve studied at the Sheffield Hallam University in Informatio

n Technology and have since completed various professional qualifications in order to teach BSL. Also has a well established grounding in the culture, social aspects and language being profoundly Deaf from birth. Steve currently works within a local council in a part time role and has been teaching BSL in various settings for over 20 years at different levels in Norwich and in Kings Lynn. Fully experienced at teaching people from all backgrounds and with little or no knowledge of deafness or sign language.

British Sign Language Signature Deaf

Would you choose to learn English, French, Geography or Biology from someone who wasn’t qualified to teach it?

The same principle applies to British Sign Language (BSL).

I’ve had people come up to me and start signing. Sometimes I haven’t understood what they were trying to say, so I’ve asked them what they meant. When they’ve explained it, I’ve realised the sign wasn’t correct. 🙈 I then showed them the correct sign and asked where they learned BSL.

This isn’t about blaming learners, they’re only using what they’ve been taught. Everyone deserves to learn accurate BSL from qualified teachers and tutors or someone have rich BSL knowledge.

If you’re looking to learn BSL
Formally for education reasons or job choose an accredited course delivered by a recognised organisation with qualified tutors. There are many organisations across the UK that offer accredited BSL courses leading to recognised qualifications, such as Signature and SQA.

Where possible, learning from a qualified Deaf tutor is especially valuable, as Deaf people are native BSL users and bring lived experience as well as language expertise or someone have rich BSL knowledge if you want to learn informal. Not a person who learns from YouTube…
