As we head into the Easter break, as always, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of our parents and carers for your continued support, communication, and partnership. It is a genuine privilege to work with your children and see the fantastic progress they make each day. Please remember you can contact the school at any time if you require support or guidance.
On behalf of all the staff at The Russett School, I wish you a safe and happy break.
Kindest regards,
Emma and the team at The Russett
School reopens on Monday 20th April.

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)
Why 21 March?
The date 21/3 was chosen because Down syndrome is caused by a unique triplication (three copies) of the 21st chromosome. This is also known as Trisomy 21.
2026 Global Theme: "Together Against Loneliness"
The official theme for 2026 is "Together Against Loneliness". This campaign focuses on how loneliness disproportionately affects people with Down syndrome and their families, framing it as a serious health and human rights issue. It advocates for genuine inclusion in schools, workplaces, and communities to ensure everyone feels they truly belong.
Ways to Get Involved
Lots of Socks Campaign: Wear your brightest, loudest, or mismatched socks to spark conversations about Down syndrome. The sock imagery represents the shape of chromosomes, which look like pairs of socks.
Fundraising & Advocacy: Many organisations, such as the Down's Syndrome Association and Down Syndrome International, offer resources for school or workplace fundraisers, including "Lots of Socks" packs and official 2026 awareness badges.
Social Media: Use the hashtag or to share photos of your socks and messages of support.
Light Up a Landmark: Communities often arrange for local landmarks to be lit up in blue and yellow (the colours of Down syndrome awareness) on 21 March.
