🧠 One hour that changed the way I connect with people - forever.
Many years ago, I attended an ACCA CPD session that gave me an insight I’ve never stopped using - personally or professionally.
I learned about different learning styles:
🔹 Auditory
🔹 Visual
🔹 Kinaesthetic
Suddenly, so much made sense.
I realised I’m kinaesthetic. That’s why I always took notes in meetings - even when handouts were provided. The act of writing helped me absorb and retain information. I had to “feel” the learning.
It also explained my boss at the time, who often said: “I hear what you’re saying.”
He was clearly auditory and responded far better to verbal discussion than graphs or reports. That small shift in understanding helped me communicate with him far more effectively.
And one of my team?
They struggled with written objectives but remembered everything you showed them. Visual learner. When I encouraged them to use images and diagrams instead of written lists, their motivation and ownership soared.
🧭 That one CPD hour gave me a practical tool I still use every day to better understand, support, and lead people.
Now, as a coach, this insight is more powerful than ever.
Because career fulfilment often starts with being understood - and understanding yourself.
🎯 When you know how you learn, communicate, and make decisions, everything gets easier - from navigating performance reviews to choosing the right role.
➡️ What’s your learning style?
➡️ Have you ever had an insight like mine that changed how you relate to others?
I’d love to hear your story.
