An effective golf swing starts from the ground and transfers in sequence through the hips, torso, arms, wrist, shaft and club head. We call this the kinematic sequence. Although there are thousands of ways to swing a club, this kinematic sequence takes place through all of them. Therefore, increasing power through your hips, torso and arms should, in theory, translate into bigger yardage. So why is this not always the case?

According to a recent clinical meta-analysis published in the journal Obesity, data across 659 patients confirmed that approximately 30% of the total weight shed on GLP-1 medications is actually lean muscle mass. This side effect has been highly documented in popular culture with the terms “wegovy butt” or “ozempic face” commonly used. What this highlights is a cultural awareness of how a reduction in muscle mass as a result of GLP-1 Medications is associated with a change in aesthetics, but beyond aesthetics, what else is this loss in mass doing? This is one of the biggest myths in fitness and something that I have been guilty of believing myself.
Muscle soreness (DOMS) is simply your body's response to an unfamiliar or overly demanding stimulus—especially if you've changed exercises, increased training volume, or returned after time off.
You don't need to be sore to:
✅ Build muscle
✅ Get stronger
✅ Improve your fitness
✅ Burn fat
What actually matters is progressive overload which is gradually asking your body to do a little more over time.
That could mean lifting a bit more weight, completing an extra rep or even improving your technique.
In fact, if you're so sore after every workout that you struggle to move or have to skip your next session, your training probably isn't helping you progress.
The best training programme isn't the one that leaves you crawling out of the gym.
It's the one that you can recover from, stay consistent with, and make steady progress on week after week.
📚 Research consistently shows that muscle soreness isn't a reliable indicator of muscle growth or training effectiveness. Long-term progress comes from consistent, progressive training—not chasing soreness.
Who else feels that if they aren't aching the next day they didn't work hard enough?

Most people think the secret to longevity is supplements, diets, or the latest health trend.
But here's a question...
Can you get down to the floor and back up again without using your hands?
Can you comfortably reach overhead, climb stairs, or play 18 holes of golf without your body complaining?
Mobility and stability aren't just about stretching. They're about giving your body the ability to keep doing the things you love for decades to come.
In my latest blog, I explain:
✅ What mobility and stability actually mean
✅ Why they matter as you age
✅ How they help you build strength safely
✅ Simple ways to start improving them today
Because living longer isn't the goal.
Keeping your body capable enough to enjoy those extra years is. Blog link in the comments.
