Functional Skills English and Maths are practical qualifications designed to help adults develop the skills they actually use in everyday life and work.

Unlike traditional school exams, Functional Skills focus on real-life situations, such as:

✔ communicating clearly with colleagues and customers
✔ reading instructions, forms and workplace information
✔ writing emails, reports and messages
✔ understanding numbers, measurements and basic calculations

These are the skills that make daily life easier - from managing money to progressing in your career.

Why are they so important?

According to UK government research, millions of adults in England lack the essential English and Maths skills needed for modern workplaces.
Improving these skills can significantly increase confidence, employability and opportunities for further education.

Employers also value Functional Skills qualifications because they show that someone can apply knowledge in real situations, not just pass a theoretical exam.

What do learners gain?

✔ stronger communication skills
✔ better job opportunities
✔ more confidence in everyday situations
✔ a nationally recognised qualification

At Speak Up School of English, we support learners step by step -from Entry 1 to Entry 3 - helping them build practical skills that make a real difference in work and life.
