We're thrilled to be featured by Netmums again - this time talking about an option many families overlook on results day: the purposeful gap year.

Tutu Alaka, our CEO, shared the story of a student who got a U in A-level Chemistry, took a year out to resit, and went on to achieve a first-class degree. A disappointing result changed her timeline, not her destination.

The research is reassuring too: most gap-year students still start university within the year, and the vast majority say the experience prepared them well for what came next.

The key? Making it purposeful - resits, real experience, volunteering, language learning. Not a holiday, an investment in your future.

For parents ahead of results week: the most useful thing you can do is manage your own reaction first. Whatever you feel, your child will pick up on it instantly.

- Lead with how they're feeling, not the grades
- Avoid comparisons with siblings or friends
- Resist solving everything immediately - support comes first, planning comes after

A-Level results land next Thursday. We'll be here throughout the day and the week after.

A question we get a lot in August: "Do I need a full tutor, or just help with one topic?" Usually the second. Precise diagnosis of what went wrong, then focused support on exactly that, works far better than generic "more revision."
