🍞 Reception had a lovely, simple goal in a recent cooking session: make your own snack! They talked about staying safe around a toaster, watched the toast pop up (definitely the best bit), then practised spreading their own topping. Butter, jam, marmite or honey? Honey won by a mile. 🍯

🛶 Would your raft stay afloat? Last week Year 6 took The Explorer off the page, working in teams to design and build mini rafts while imagining what the characters faced, stranded in the Amazon rainforest. Then every raft went into the water for the real test, and lots of them stayed afloat for an impressively long time! 🌊

🏉 Our Year 4 and Year 6 girls headed to Bugbrooke RFC for the Girls' Tag Rugby Festival, and for lots of them it was their first ever go at tag rugby. You'd never have guessed! Quick feet, tags grabbed like old hands and loads of cheering for each other. There was even a special guest on the sidelines: the Premiership trophy, fresh from Northampton Saints' win this summer. 🏆

How tall can you build with six sheets of newspaper and a roll of masking tape? 📰 That was Year 5's challenge in Health and Wellbeing, part of a lesson on what it takes to work well as a team. Dojos were up for grabs for the tallest tower and the best teamwork, and there were some really creative ideas.

🐸 Year 2 headed outside for an afternoon of outdoor learning and found the grass full of baby frogs! The children built dens, explored and painted their surroundings in watercolour. Then they moved slowly and carefully to watch the frogs jump about, fascinated and excited in equal measure.

Year 4 traded their classroom for a Viking longship this week! ⛵ As part of their history topic, they learned synchronised rowing, wrote secret messages in Old Norse runes, and even picked up a Viking song about the gods. A brilliant, hands-on way to bring the Vikings to life.

Year 3's first afternoon back started with an episode of Bluey. "Bike", the one where nothing goes right and everybody keeps trying anyway. 🚲

Then they were handed a pile of deliberately awkward materials and asked to build a tower. Towers went up. Towers came down. Towers went up again, taller and with a better plan behind them. That's perseverance, and it beats a display board every time.
