The 3 iโs of the activity
Shape collaging
Intent:
To encourage and develop early mathematical language such as colours and shape names. To build gross and fine motor skills by using creative materials.
Implementation:
Multiple different paper shapes were provided along with plain paper and glue for the children to freely create their own collage. The children were sat in pairs alongside a staff member to encourage peer-on-peer discussions about the different shapes and colours they could identify.
Impact:
The children were able to name the different shapes and colours, and each created a unique collage with the materials provided. Some children discussed their collages with their peer and staff member; โwhat shapes have you used?โ โIโve used a square and a star.โ
