⚠️Allergy Safety in Schools - New Statutory Guidance for September 2026 ⚠️

Benedict’s Law marks a significant step for allergy safety in schools.

The Government’s new statutory guidance from September 2026 outlines the following key requirements:

🥜Whole‑school allergy policy - Schools must create, publish, and maintain a dedicated allergy safety policy. This is separate from the medical conditions policy and must be available on the school website.

🚑Staff Training - Every member of staff and all volunteers must receive comprehensive training covering recognition of symptoms, emergency response, use of adrenaline auto‑injectors (AAIs), incident reporting, and lessons‑learned processes.

🖋️Spare adrenaline auto‑injectors - Schools must hold spare, in‑date AAIs on site for emergency use. These are not personal prescription devices but emergency stock for any child or adult experiencing anaphylaxis.

📋Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) - Schools must identify pupils with allergies and create detailed IHPs outlining triggers, symptoms, emergency actions, and medication arrangements.

👩‍💼Named senior leader responsible - A designated senior leader must oversee allergy safety, ensure compliance, and review the allergy policy at least annually.
