***Notice of School Closure***

Due to the ongoing extreme heat, we are closing the school on Friday 26th June in addition to Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Although the UKHSA Red Alert is due to end on Thursday evening, forecast temperatures for Friday remain exceptionally high, and we consider this a continued and significant risk to both students and staff.

Internal temperatures across our estate are already reaching 27–33 °C despite full mitigation measures being in place. With further extreme heat forecast and sites at full occupancy, classroom temperatures would be expected to exceed safe operational limits.

As we are unable to reduce temperatures to a safe level or adequately protect the wellbeing of students and staff, we have taken the decision to remain closed.

We have made this decision as early as possible to support families in planning ahead.

We fully understand the disruption that this may cause and appreciate your continued understanding.

Last Friday, Sarah Bool, our MP for South Northants, popped along to visit The Gateway School.

With the recently released schools white paper “Every Child Achieving and Thriving” being discussed, she was keen to understand more about how our special school, which supports students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), functions.

Sarah toured the school during the week’s enrichment sessions, including taking in a drama workshop, creating clay figures around wire frames in art, baking apple crumble in cookery and teaching personal training in the gym.

Chatting to both staff and students, it was great to share the positive impact our school has on the lives of the young people attending TGS, as well as highlight some of the challenges we face.

But even better, it was a fantastic opportunity for students to meet our local parliamentary representative in person.

Yesterday we welcomed guests to officially open our TGS2 facilities. Thanks to Tobias who cut the ribbon along with the Deputy Lieutenant.

Yesterday, we proudly celebrated the official opening of the transformative new expansion at The Gateway School in Towcester — a milestone that brings carefully designed learning spaces to support a broader, more inclusive curriculum for students.

The Gateway School, part of the Creating Tomorrow Trust, is a specialist secondary school for young people aged 11–16 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), whose primary needs relate to social, emotional and/or mental health (SEMH).

The expansion now includes a gym, food technology suite, ICT and science rooms, a drama studio, nurture spaces, a multi-use games area (MUGA), a horticulture area, and a refurbished sports hall and pool.

We welcomed a few visitors last week for a "first look" at our brand new facilities. We can't wait to welcome everyone this September as we grow our school family. 🤩

We're excited to announce that construction started to refurbish old, unused facilities on our site in July. It's going to add another vital 55 spaces to our school and provide much needed new vocational facilities.
