Hi! 👋 I’m Maria and I run Eat Sleep Bake Repeat, small, hands-on baking classes for children here in Northampton.

And my September preschool baking classes are now OPEN for booking! 🎉

These aren’t classes where your little one watches an adult bake.

THEY do the baking. ❤️

They pour.
They scoop.
They count.
They mix.
They squish.
They make choices.
They learn to wait and take turns.

And yes… they make a glorious mess along the way. 😂

I’ve been teaching children in Northampton to bake for well over a decade (20 years if you include the baking with my own son), and one of my favourite things is watching a preschooler realise:

“I CAN DO IT MYSELF!”

Because while they think they’re making something yummy to take home, they’re also developing:

🥣 Fine motor skills
🔢 Early maths
👂 Listening and following instructions
🗣️ Language and communication
🤝 Turn-taking and social skills
❤️ Confidence and independence

All through baking.

No pressure to make something perfect.

No expectation that they already know what they’re doing.

Just a friendly, small-group environment where they’re encouraged to have a go.

If you have a preschooler who loves getting involved in the kitchen — or perhaps one who hasn’t really had the chance yet — September could be their time.

45-ish minutes of baking.

Lots of learning.

Plenty of independence.

Usually a little bit of mess. 😂

And something they’ve made themselves to take home.

Did you know your 3 year old can:

Crack the egg.

Pour the milk.

Count the spoonfuls.

Mix the ingredients.

Make a choice.

Have another go when it doesn’t quite work.

👩 We can be so quick to jump in and help little children.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is give them the tools, show them how…

…and let them discover that they can. 💛

There’s something rather special about watching a very small person put on an apron and suddenly become VERY serious about baking. 😂

“I do it.”

Those three words are music to my ears.

Because at Eat Sleep Bake Repeat, it has never really been about making the perfect cake.

It’s about giving children the opportunity to try.

Preschool baking returns in September.

Something is beginning to mix together for September… 👀

The aprons will be coming back out.

The ovens will be warming up.

And there will once again be five little bakers around the table learning that cooking isn’t something grown-ups have to do for them.

Preschool sessions will be available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 10am.

I wonder who my new little bakers will be?

It looks like a bowl, a spoon, some sugar a courgette, raisins and a bit of flour.

But watch a two, three or four year old closely and there is SO much more going on.

They’re listening.
Counting.
Taking turns.
Making decisions.
Using those little hand muscles.
Trying something new.
And discovering…

“I can do it myself.”

That’s why I love preschool baking. ❤️

I might be in holiday mode… but the mixing bowls won’t be empty for long. 🥣

In September, my littlest bakers will be back in the kitchen — mixing, pouring, counting, squishing, tasting and discovering just how much they can do for themselves.
