This week we checked on our runner beans that have been growing, we were very excited to find that some of them were sprouting shoots 🌱 We have been reading Jack and the Bean stalk this week and imagining our bean stalks growing up to a castle just like Jacks did.
Also this week we have focused on taking about People Who Help us and how they help us to stay happy, safe and healthy. We’ve looked at Vets, Doctors, Dentists, farmers, hairdressers and teachers just to name a few 🤓
For those children starting their journey in reception soon we have been working hard on forming recognisable letters and building on their hand muscles ✍🏻

📚 “A Very Curious Bear”
Our focus this week has been encouraging the children to ask “ WHY❓” and continuing our Spring growing theme 🌱
The children have been practising their fine motor skills using a variety of tools in different textures, making marks and developing coordination 🥕🍴🍃
Outside the sun has been shining so we have been able to draw around our shadows, big and small 👤
Potion making has been popular in the water, using coloured water and herbs from around the garden to make “magic medicine” 🧪

Growing 🌱
Spring has sprung at Red Robins today ☀️
We have started our growing topic today by planting some onions, potatoes and garlic outside 🥔🧅🧄
Tomorrow we will water them 💦 and continue to watch them grow in the hope that later on this year we will be able to dig them up and have a little taste of our own home grown vegetables!
Inside we learnt about different vegetables and fruits and what they need to grow 💦☀️ We have planted green beans and cress, the children are very excited…. and impatient to watch them grow 🤣

Wᴏʀʟᴅ Bᴏᴏᴋ Week 📚
In 2022, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day – with the message for all children ‘𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕒 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕖𝕣‘!
For books to borrow for free, reading recommendations and family reading events view your local library services.
We explored many different well known stories, and engaged in activities such as creating Stick Man character, story sequencing practising our scissor control, measuring Goldilock’s porridge using mathematical language and feeding the very hungry caterpillar by warming up our finger muscles!
Thank you to all those children who brought in their favourite book for us to share at group time 🐽🦖🐻

Pancake Day 🥞
The children listened well to the instructions and took turns to add the ingredients. 🥚🥛🥄We counted the eggs, watched the numbers on the scale change and stopped when pouring the milk into the jug at the right measure 👨🏻🍳
We have been reading the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes this week and the children were able to retell the ingredients from the story that we needed to make our pancakes 🐺📚
We also looked at Daffoldils, identifying their colour and particular characteristics of the flower to raise awareness of St David’s Day 🏴

The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛
This week we have been exploring all things mini beats 🕷🍁🐜
We also started on prepping our garden for Spring planting 🤞🏻 We even found some potatoes from our last season 🥔
Introducing our story for the next few weeks, we’ve read and recapped The Very Hungry Caterpillar, started to develop understanding of the mathematical language through out the story and to investigate a simple life - cycle 🦋

Do any of our lovely parents and followers have any old saucepans, cake tins, baking trays or kitchen utensils they would donate to Red Robins mud kitchen??
We have a few bits already but are really keen to give the children experiences using real resources they see everyday at home to make their mud pies!
If you do have anything you can donate we will be happy to collect or they can be dropped off at the setting any time.
Thank you!!
