A 1000 Words

Just returned from the Design History Conference 2024 in Canterbury. The theme was borders of all kinds. As with all theese events you cannot be in all teh parrallel sessions. But there were some excellent papers on illustration and its role across cultures - men's tailoring illustration. Children'sbooks in the Soviet era....but image making was also vital in other papers of all kinds. Many images communicated without people to create an idea of scale.

I was left asking if I should bemoreactive in theis space and ask more peopoel join and post images - that cross borders.

I only caught part of the documentary about images of The Queen and how many there are because she appears on items like postage stamps. It will seem stage having anoter face on the stamps and bank notes. Will some value be lost?

I seem to have collection of toilet signs. But is it a now an defunct system?

Back in May at Clerkenwell Design week Istarted a discussion with the Czech factory started by Thonet in the 19th century, in the same hall was the "western" version of the classic brand Thonet. Are the semiotics the same? Or the design - furnitire form - cover two very different stories...

This page was set up following an AHRC bid. It was set up too looking at how visual langauges communicates across cultures. It is cloely linked to my research interests in to gift design and children's play. But of course covers numerous discplines semiotics, anthrolology... shall I revivie the page? I starting to study how envronmental concerns are effect toys and toy production? How are these issues being communicted? Greta is trying to speak to adults....but how does she visually convey her message to younger children?

Colonel Sanders image bowtie has been seen by many as very small body but are the chairs supports also inspired by the ties?

I thought I had sorted it but I they are still sending messages, Iunderstand. Please do report them and not respond, messages or links. It does not seem easy to report it.
