💛🌈 Big Feelings, Little People 🌈💛
We’ve been busy making another exciting change to our Preschool environment today, creating a dedicated emotions and self-regulation area for our children. 🥰
Learning to understand our emotions is such an incredibly important part of early childhood. For little people, feelings can sometimes feel VERY big, and they don’t always have the words or skills to understand what is happening or how to manage them just yet💭❤️
Our new area has been thoughtfully created to give children a safe and inviting space to recognise, explore and talk about their emotions, with mirrors, emotion resources, books, sensory experiences and calming activities to support them along the way🌈✨
But most importantly, our children aren’t expected to manage those big feelings alone. ❤️ Our practitioners are there to co-regulate alongside them, offering comfort, reassurance, connection and helping children find strategies that work for them. Over time, these supported experiences help children begin to develop the skills to regulate their own emotions.
Whether we’re feeling happy 😊, sad 😢, worried 😟, angry 😠, excited 🤩 or calm 😌, every emotion is okay, it’s learning what we can do with those feelings that matters.
By giving children the language to express how they feel and showing them that their emotions will be listened to and supported, we’re helping to build confidence, resilience, emotional literacy and positive mental wellbeing from the very beginning🌱💛
Because sometimes the biggest learning happening in our classrooms isn’t ABCs or 123s… it’s learning to understand ourselves🥰🌈
