What a wonderful forensic science lesson. Here are some photos from a practical lesson about the extraction of DNA from a strawberry and acid alkaline.
Considering these are acids and alkalis found in the home they made a great rainbow!

Way, way before seeing Donna Ashworth’s beautiful (she always nails it) words in this poem, this is actually what we’d had in mind when we chose yellow for the HST Northants and Leicestershire branding.
The tutors we choose to work with us have to OOZE this feeling.
We will show up for you. We will be your yellow.

What an evening!
Yesterday I went to the book launch of The Seven Lenses written by neurodiversity coach (and my very great friend) Hayley Brackley. Hayley is autistic, ADHD and dyslexic, and also one of the most intellectual, supportive and hilarious people I know.
Hayley has supported me while navigating my own neurodivergent household and it’s been such a relief to have someone help us who isn’t approaching it from a clinical point of view.
Instead, she (and this book) approaches neurodiversity with humility because she has lived it herself, and really just wants to make schools and workplaces a more accepting and kinder place, where people can work to their strengths and be shown a little understanding if their brain operates slightly differently to yours.
If you are a teacher, an employer, love someone with neurodivergence or are neurodivergent yourself, I wholeheartedly recommend reading this. You don’t know what you don’t know until you know it!

⭐️ Tutor Reflection from Lucy ( Primary School Tutor) ⭐️
‘One of the things I love most about being a tutor is that every day is different. Every child learns in their own way, which means no two sessions are ever the same.
Sometimes it's about trying a different approach, finding a practical way to explain a concept, or breaking something down into smaller steps until it finally clicks. What makes it even more rewarding is watching their confidence grow. The look of pride when they realise they've solved a problem on their own or mastered something they once found difficult reminds me why I do what I do.
Tutoring isn't just about helping children learn; it's about understanding their individual needs, adapting teaching methods to suit them, reinforcing skills, and helping them believe in their own abilities.
Being part of that journey and seeing children thrive is a privilege that never gets old. ‘ ❤️
