Wise words from our Midwife Maddy 🥰
10/06/2025
Most of us have been taught consciously or not, to hold it all in. To squeeze, to tighten, to lift.
We’ve trained our pelvic floors to pull up and in, to stay clenched, to stay “in control.” And while this may help us in a Pilates class or when we're trying not to sneeze — it does not help us birth a baby.
Tight Is Not the Goal in Birth
A strong pelvic floor isn’t the same as a tight one. When you give birth, your pelvic floor needs to stretch, soften, and open to make space for your baby. If it’s trained only to lift and hold, without the counterbalance of release and flow, that tension can create resistance, physically and energetically, during birth.
So while many women focus on strengthening (and rightly so), we also need to focus on softening, releasing and letting go.

You can’t teach softening from a textbook.
You can’t explain surrender with bullet points.
You can’t guide a woman to trust her body if you’ve never learned how to trust yours.
Birth isn’t just about what we know, it’s about how we feel.
Most women haven’t been taught how to feel safe enough to let go, and that’s why I created Breathe for Birth.
To train teachers who don’t just share information but who hold space for transformation.
We teach breath, energetics, nervous system tools, and intuitive movement so you are able to guide women back to the wisdom of their bodies.
✨ If you feel the pull to support women in this deeper, more embodied way…
This is your invitation.
To lead.
To hold space.
To teach from the head, the heart and the body ✨️
It couldn't be easier to train as a Breathe for Birth teacher. Instant access is given to all of the training a course materials so you can get going straight away.

There’s a fine line between preparing women for birth and planting fear.
As Breathe for Birth teachers, our role is not to convince pregnant women they’re heading into battle — but to help them stand strong in their truth, just in case.
We teach awareness, not alarm.
Confidence, not conflict.
Yes, some birth choices may be questioned. Yes, advocacy matters.
But their care team is the enemy.
Let’s not create a fight where there isn’t one.
Let’s raise mothers who are informed, embodied, and deeply connected to their inner wisdom — not armed with fear, but supported with tools and trust.
Breathe for Birth is about honouring birth, not fearing it.
