“But I knew it yesterday!” Sound familiar?

Sometimes a child can understand something perfectly when they’re learning it, only to struggle to remember it a few days later.

That doesn’t mean they weren’t listening or that they’re suddenly struggling. Learning something once doesn’t always mean it has stuck.

Children need opportunities to:
✔️ Retrieve what they’ve learned
✔️ Practise it again
✔️ Revisit it over time
✔️ Apply it in different ways

Each time they do, those skills and connections become stronger.

So, if your child says “But I knew this yesterday!”, don’t panic. A little repetition and practice can be exactly what they need to turn something they’ve learned into something they really know.

Maths Made Simple: How to Measure Angles!

Need a quick refresher on using a protractor? Follow these 3 easy steps:

1️⃣ Place the Protractor: Align the baseline with one side of the angle and position the centre hole on the vertex.
2️⃣ Align the Baseline: Make sure one side of the angle is at the 0° mark.
3️⃣ Read the Measurement: See where the other side crosses the protractor scale. That’s your angle in degrees!

When your child gets an answer wrong, it can be tempting to jump straight in with the correct one.

➡️ Instead, try asking: “Talk me through how you got that answer.”

Their explanation can tell you much more than the wrong answer itself.

Perhaps they misunderstood the question, missed a step, got confused by one part of the process or simply made a small mistake along the way.

Giving them the chance to explain their thinking also encourages them to problem-solve independently and, quite often, they’ll spot the mistake themselves.

Sometimes the best way to help isn’t to give them the answer, but to help them find it.
