Since coming back after the half-term, we have been learning all about different types of transport and gardening. During Transport week, we turned our role play area into a garage and a bus station. During our play, we pretended to fix cars with some tools, wearing our protective gear and we pretended to drive the bus to the beach, whilst singing the wheels on the bus. Great fun! Throughout transport week, we also went on a walk to spot different types of transport such as, buses, bikes, motorbikes, cars, vans etc. and we used a tally sheet to mark how many we could see! This week (27th April - 1st may) is National gardening week, the children have been learning all about gardening and the life cycles of plants. We went on a walk to spot different types of plants and flowers and made a lovely picture out of them. We have also been planting sunflowers, we talked about how flowers need, sunshine and plenty of water to help them grow. Great learning Puddleducks!

At Puddleducks, we explored National Science Week and also learnt all about space. We investigated lots of different scientific experiments. We explored colour changing by mixing our primary colours, (red, yellow and blue) together to make different colours. The children learnt that red and yellow makes orange and that blue and yellow make green. Great learning! We also did a Volcano experiment, using bicarbonate soda, white vinegar and food colouring. The bicarbonate soda and white vinegar reacted together to create the illusion that the volcano was exploding. Another scientific experiment involved using the wind. We created our own wind by flapping paper card in the air to make the tissue paper fly. When it was very windy outside one day, we made kites using paper, lolly pop sticks and string and when the wind blew the kites flew up in the air. During this week, We also explored Space. We looked at the different planets, made our own rocket using cardboard boxes and we created our own aliens with the potato heads and the playdough. Great learning Puddleducks!

The children had a visitor who bought in her giant African millipedes and Flower Beetles. The children were very curious and gathered closely to observe. With gentle guidance and support some of the children were brave enough to hold one and feel it slowly crawl across their hand and arm. The children showed care and respect as they handled the millipedes and beetle.
It was a lovely hands on experience. The children then went on to some drawings of the millipede. 😊

This week at Puddleducks, we learnt all about Chinese New Year! This year is the year of the horse, we celebrated by making our own horses at the arts and crafts table. We also enjoyed pretending to make some traditional food in the messy tray, using coloured rice and pots and pans. We looked at a special story and talked about what happens. In the story, we discovered that in China, they believe that red means good luck and happiness. We also learnt that to honour their ancestors they all come together for a big feast, cut their hairs and clean their houses to get ready for the new year and bring good luck. At nursery, We celebrated Chinese new year by having a big feast of our own, filled with lots of yummy traditional foods, such as, noodles, rice, prawn crackers and sweet and sour sauce. All the children tried the food and they really liked it. Great job Puddleducks!
