Are you thinking of moving to In the Moment Planning?💭
At our Curiosity Approach settings we use ITMP as it allows the child to become the focal point by removing the focus off the topic and theme and allowing children to lead their play. They decide instead of us deciding !
We are present, aware and act and respond in the moment.
There is no set themes or topics to consider, we embrace the seasons through our environment by adapting and respecting it as a whole.
This also doesn’t mean we are pen and paper ready either!
It means being mindful practitioners who are fully engaged with the child.
How much do you miss if you’re too busy writing ???
Put the IPads down, put the clip boards away and notice, see and observe what’s truly happening in play.
This means observing and listening.
To wait, watch, and wonder
It’s about interacting, supporting and scaffolding (sustained shared thinking)
In a team you must all understand the importance of communication, to share knowledge about a child, to pass on information when you have actively engaged with another persons key child.
As individuals
💖who will know when to slow down and be present with the children.
💖 To know the importance of wait, watch and wonder!
💖 looks after the environment to reflect the interests and schemas/ urges of the children.
💖A team that works together!
ITMP is more then just planning.
Its about being in the moment, knowing the cues of when to join the child’s play, or when to step away
To fully understanding children and their milestones to know when to challenge and question! ( question respectfully at the right moment) not bombard or interfere play.
Ensuring your connection and relationships with children is just as important as everything else!
Its about removing a set learning goal for ALL children in the group, instead meet the individual needs of the child there and then!a
**How do you do this? **
We highly recommend finding training on In the Moment Planning for you and your team to complete as this will help you fully embed your understanding.
If you just stop the planning that you are currently completing and move to ITMP without fully understanding it, it won’t be as effective!
Plus you’ll become unstuck because you have nothing at all in place.
It takes time
If you are considering ITMP in your setting, please do your research, we have lots of information on ITMP here on the academy page
