We understand that all children learn differently, and it is their personal outcomes that matter.

🌟 Why We Use SMART Targets 🌟

At our setting, we use SMART targets to support each child’s individual learning and development. SMART targets are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound, helping us break learning into manageable steps that children can successfully achieve.

By working towards these targets, children build important skills such as communication, problem-solving, independence, confidence, and resilience. Celebrating small achievements along the way helps children develop a positive attitude towards learning and encourages them to keep trying when faced with challenges.

The benefits of SMART targets extend far beyond early childhood. The skills children develop through setting and achieving goals help prepare them for school and later life. Learning how to focus on a task, work towards an objective, reflect on progress, and persevere when things are difficult are valuable life skills that support future success in education, employment, and everyday life. πŸ’œ

Why is sensory and messy play so important? πŸŒˆπŸ‘

Sensory and messy play provides children with opportunities to explore, discover, and learn through hands-on experiences. Activities such as water play, sand, play dough, paint, and sensory trays help develop fine motor skills, communication, creativity, problem-solving, and confidence.

For children with additional learning needs, sensory play can be especially beneficial. It supports sensory processing, encourages communication and social interaction, helps with focus and emotional regulation, and provides a safe, engaging way to explore and learn at their own pace.

Every child learns differently, and sensory play creates inclusive opportunities for all children to thrive, develop new skills, and build confidence through play. πŸ’š

🌟 Sensory play is a big part of what we do at strive! 🌟

Every child experiences the world differently, and we’re here to support their individual sensory needs in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment. πŸ’™

Some days that might mean:
πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Running, jumping, and exploring in the garden
🎡 Making lots of noise through music and play
πŸ”¦ Relaxing in our blackout tent with torches
πŸ’‘ Turning off the main lights to create a calm sensory space
🌈 Discovering new textures, sounds, and experiences

Sensory stimulation helps children regulate their emotions, build confidence, develop important skills, and most importantly… have fun! 😊

We love creating opportunities for our children to learn, explore, and thrive in ways that work best for them. Every child is unique, and we’re proud to celebrate that every day. ✨

Messy Area🎨🫧

Strive had so much fun exploring shaving foam and paint, using spoons to mix colours, create patterns, and enjoy a wonderfully messy sensory experience! πŸ–οΈ

Sensory play is especially valuable for children with SEN, as it encourages curiosity, creativity, and exploration in a relaxed and engaging way. Activities like this help develop communication skills as children share ideas, take turns, describe what they see and feel, and interact with their peers.

It was lovely to see the children working together, communicating with one another, and building confidence through play. Learning can be messy, but it’s also full of opportunities for connection, discovery, and growth! πŸͺ»

✨Things we found out since working with SEND children ✨

Communication is πŸ”‘
So much of our behaviour
is shaped by our ability to communicate. Often, what we see as challenging behaviour is simply frustration arising from a lack of language or understanding.

Setting boundaries πŸ›‘
It provides structure, supports emotional regulation, and helps them understand expectations. Boundaries create a sense of safety, reduce anxiety. and empower children to develop independence and positive behaviours.

Even smallest of wins is still a win πŸ₯‡
Whatever it might be you celebrate it, saying their first word at 3 years old, Taking their first step with specialist equipment! πŸ₯³

Parent partnership 🀝
Parents know their child best, and sharing insights ensures consistent support across home and school. Strong collaboration builds trust, improves outcomes, and helps each child reach their full potential.

Finding out one way of regulating a child doesn't always work for another You need to find out what works best for them by building trust and bonds with your key child allows you to know that child ❀️

✨ Attention Autism, Bucket Time at Strive ✨

At Strive, we use Attention Autism β€œBucket Time” sessions to create exciting, engaging experiences that encourage children to join in, interact, and explore in a way that feels comfortable for them πŸͺ£πŸŒŸ

Bucket Time is not about expecting children to sit still for long periods or forcing participation. Instead, it allows children the opportunity to engage at their own pace while building important skills such as:

πŸ’› Attention and concentration
πŸ’› Communication and interaction
πŸ’› Listening and anticipation
πŸ’› Confidence in group activities
πŸ’› Shared enjoyment and curiosity

Through fun sensory-based activities such as lights, music, bubbles, and exciting objects hidden in the bucket, children are naturally drawn into learning through play and engagement 😊

We love seeing each child participate in their own individual way and celebrating every moment of connection, curiosity, and excitement during our sessions πŸ’«

Busy little minds at work πŸ’›

We love seeing the children so deeply engaged and concentrating during their play and learning experiences. These moments help build confidence, independence, and important thinking skills.

By joining together with our preschool/toddlers room, the children are given wonderful opportunities to develop their communication and language skills, build friendships, and learn to socialise within a busier environment. These experiences help prepare them for the transition to school by encouraging turn taking, listening, sharing ideas, and becoming more comfortable in larger group settings.

It’s lovely to watch the children learn from one another and grow together every day 🌟
